Poll question: Outing Gay Politicians. Period.
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 02:01 AM by sleipnir
Where do you stand on the recent trend of outing Gay Politicians. I am strongly interested on the current vibe running through us Dems on this issue.

1. You didn't include the standard used by
the group that does this the most often. I forget the name of the people doing this, but they only do it to those who are anti-gay. Only those politicians with voting records and campaigns that are against gays are outed. I think their hypocrisy and politics make them fair game. Otherwise, I would say a person should only be outed when they choose to out themselves.

6. that's the proper standard . . .
the outing should happen to expose hypocrisy, not just because someone is gay . . . if a closeted gay is supporting the marriage amendment and speaking out against gay rights, then he or she is fair game for being outed . . . in all other cases, it's up to the individual him/herself . . .

3. Conservatives who are politcally anti-gay should be outed
We're doing the religious right a favor. Wouldn't they like to know if one of their own is homosexual?

5. I was outed, by my mom, under extremely traumatic circumstances.
Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 02:36 AM by kgfnally
Some of you may know my story.

She found my porn, spread it out all over my bedroom floor like the accusation she meant it to be, and confronted me when I got home. Two hours later, I was homeless, on my bike, riding into town (3 miles) in the rain. I had to spend the night in the home of someone I knew through work, and the next day, I moved in with someone I hardly knew.

I didn't go to class for a week. I was crying constantly. This was due to (please, don't laugh or mock) being a *nearly perfect teenager in almost every respect* (please, read on for an explanation). I graduated with a 3.85 GPS and a 27 on my ACT (never took the SAT; I didn't need to). I also graduated with both NHS cords, and was 13th in my class overall.

I was also heavily involved in music. I was in choir, concer/marching/jazz band, performed in a musical staged by the music department each year, and was also involved with the Regional and State Honors Choir several times, the Michigan Youth Arts Festival (where I sat first chair oboe one year, making me one of the "best" three or four oboists in the state for that year). I wanted to be a high school music teacher. To the day of this writing, I've not had a brush with the law in which I was in the wrong.

Until all this happened. Until I was betrayed.

The following year (after she found out I was gay) I lost the apartment I had with a friend. I had replaced him (or rather, was planning to replace him after he moved out) with two other people, but one of them skipped town the day before the signing of the lease and I had to back out. This left me homeless again. My father came by, helped me pack my things... and then left me there with a smile and a wave.

I spent the next week sleeping under trees on campus and in friends' dorm rooms, sneaking showers and meals when nobody was looking. This while I was still working and going to class. I couldn't handle it, so I moved back home.

HUGE mistake. ENORMOUS mistake. My grades fell further. I was driving 63 miles round trip to work. I had dropped all classes but the essentials, and I wasn't doing so hot in those. Then, my grades came in, my parents saw them, and told me in no uncertain terms that they weren'
They wouldn't even let me try... not with their money. Oh, no. That's for their retirement, not for lowly people like their own kids to use for their futures- and never mind them always, always telling me growing up that I could be anything I wanted to if I put my mind to it, that they would always back me in whatever I wanted to do.

By the way, with that precious money, my dad bought a truck; my mom bought a Lincoln. And so it goes....

I didn't put my mind to it- I put my heart and soul to it. I gave the proverbial "it" absolutely everything I had, without reservation: musical activities were all I did, all I ever felt comfortable doing- and I was damn good at it (I was composing at the age of fourteen- and how many kids do you know of who do that for fun??). I got kicked in my teeth for my trouble. I don't want anything at all to do with music anything any more. Going through that killed every last bit of desire and drive to perform that I ever had.

With all that said: I fully support the outing of duplicitous politicians who write legislation that goes against their little secret life. Fucking OUT them. Out them so hard, so brutally, and so completely that they and their families will never recover from the trauma.

I want to see these assholes' lives fall apart. I want to see their little Barbie-carbon-copy wife, their house with a white picket fence, their two-point-five-kids AND their dog named "Spot" burn.

Hey, it's because of duplicitous, lying, hypocritical pieces of trash like them that I got personally and emotionally destroyed. Gloves off, ok? I want to see these jerks AND THEIR FAMILIES suffer just as much as I have, for just as long as I have, if not longer.

I want them ruined just as much as I want to see my own mom ruined. Mind you: I'll not raise a finger to do anything like that to my own mom, but DAMMIT, actions are supposed to have consequences, and even after going through all I did (or, perhaps, because of it), I want to see this happen with, as one man once put it, the white-hot brilliance of a thousand suns.

9. You really made me think
First, KG, I want to say that I'm really sorry for the way your parents treated you. I just cringe when I hear of or see parents who are so fucking stupid, to discard a wonderful child, for a reason that is so trivial. I really don't care what a person's religious or personal beliefs are about homosexuality. Do discard your child over it, that's wrong, so wrong.

I initially responded with no outing, never. When I voted, I really hadn't taken into consideration the closet gays who will legislate against other gays, and nurture the fear. While normally I believe that each person should be allowed to come out, or not, when and where and how they feel comfortable with, these people are the exception. Their hypocrisy and betrayal excludes them from the protective stance that I would normally take.

10. So, essentially...
Anyone who disagrees with your opinion on gay rights (and I don't) is evil and needs to be destroyed? Sorry, while I support your rights in a big way, you lose me loooong before you get to that point. I don't think gay men or women should be destroyed for being who they are, no matter who they are.

If that makes me a moderate, so be it. I think it's better than being hateful.

15. The point you are missing is...
...these self hating homo repukes ARE destroying us every single day that they remain in the closet with the protection of their so called party of moral values.

Ask my partner what it is like to have me living 8,000 miles from her, how these self haters have destroyed her. Ask the queer person sitting in ICU right now waiting for the parents of their loved one (who they have been together with for 15 plus years) to give permission for them to see that loved one, one last time, how these self haters have destroyed them. Ask the queer couple living down in Alabama, who have been together for 50 plus years and still can't marry, while their neighbour just shipped over his latest mail order bride, how these self haters have destroyed them. Need I go on?

Don't slam someone here because they want to see these self haters destroyed. Remember, these self haters have been working for YEARS to destroy US. They don't care because they ARE the lawmakers and have ALL the protections under the sun. They fall in love with someone from another country, fuck it, they can just get a damn green card for that person. They have a loved one in ICU, fuck it, they are the fucking law, they can see them at any time. Marriage? Hell they have the money to go off to Canada if they want to marry. It doesn't matter that with that marriage doesn't come the legal protections by the government, because they are the fucking lawmakers.

Well I for one am tired of seeing these assholes have everything, while each day that passes means more lost time away from my partner for me.

12. well...
Someone's sexuality is a personal thing, something we have no buisness knowing about.

However, I also beleive that if these people vote to oppress peope for something that they themselves are, then they are weak hypocrites who, in the search for power have blinded themselves to love, foregivenss and being true to themselves. Theres no place in politics for people like that.

13. I just posted my thoughts about this last night!
You can view my change of heart about outing the self hating homo repukes here: Lets out all the dirty slime repukes! A rant and request!

Sapphocrat was amazed to see my change of opinion on this. She honestly thought this was one subject I would never have a change of heart over. For the record, Sapph has always been for outing them. I, on the other hand wasn't, until my anger boiled over last night.
