Is it me or did Tommy Thompson ask the terrorists to F with our food?
"For the life of me," he said, "I cannot understand why the terrorists have not attacked our food supply because it is so easy to do."

He could have at least said please.
Please Mr/Mrs. terrorist F with our food supply it's not guarded at all. I mean I should know, I was the director of the whole thing and here are they keys. Cause we got 4 more years and were gonna need to start a new war with somebody pretty soon cause George is growing bored with this one.

doing a global crusade instead of doing actual practical things.

3. I think it's a parting shot at Dubya. Tommy does not like to be told
what to do. He was frustrated by the inability to do what he wanted without having to ask the whitehouse first. I believe he said what he did to make it clear that it has to be dealt with. He was more or less washing his hands and dumping it all back on the administration.
Now he is coming back to Wisconsin where he bloated the government and plunged us into ungodly debt.

5. that was our immediate take on it too. But then he went on..
to talking about food coming from the Middle East and therefore being easy to mess with, leading my next thought "felfal and tatziki sales are sure to drop". My spouse exclaimed along the line that perhaps they should just print out an "get us here" pamphlet.

30. Call Bill O'Reilly and get him on this story quick...
If felafel prices are going to rise,
is it not logical to expect that
loofah prices will also rise?

Somebody has got to get to the bottom of this.
And Bill O'Reilly has the highest qualifications.

16. If terrorists had wanted to mess with our food supply...
they would have done it by now. America is an open book. A little online research, and you can find out most anything.

Some months back, I watched a report on Dateline or 60 Minutes or ?
It highlighted how open the coastal areas of the US are, especially in the Northwest. One man was in charge of patrolling over 100 miles of coastline. If he saw anything suspicious, he was to call for help.

He stated that he would most likely have to drive for 20 minutes, before he could even get a signal on his cell phone. All a potential terrorist would have to do is watch this officer for a couple nights to know how to avoid confrontation. This was a job specifically created by the Homeland Security Dept. So, it could be said, that the coastal area of Washington state is being protected against terrorists. The officer himself said it was a farce.

I would be willing to bet there are hundreds, if not thousands of situations just like this.

Bush, for all his grandstanding on the War on Terrorism has failed us miserably here at home.

26. Yep
I saw the same report.

Bush, for all his grandstanding on the War on Terrorism has failed us miserably here at home.

That's because he knows there will not be any attacks, except for the one he organizes.

Fear, Fear, Fear, that's the only thing that keeps these idiots in charge.

A population that is fearful is easier to control.

Remember, he said, "This would be much easier if this were a dictatorship, and I was the dictator."

He really meant it.

19. The thought did cross my mind, but I banished it immediately
"No, silly thought! You will not disturb the simple flat continuum of my monopolar world view, in which America is a shining beacon of peace and love and Jesus, where our moral values are matched only by our WalMart values, and we'll kick yer ass if you look at us funny. Our food is absolutely safe and gorgeous, as is evidenced by the millions of lovely obese people lining up at the McTaco King drive-thru every day. Ye shall not scare me, nor cause me to mess unto my shorts. Back, back to the chaotic recesses of my pre-conscious mind with you! Begone, and trouble us no more."

And *bing* just like that, I was happy again! :) :) :)

25. I think it's dumb that he said it, however
I recall hearing after 9/11 that they KNEW the terrorists were going to try to tamper with food, because (and my memory is faulty) the terrorists were talking about something like "FDA" and they couldn't figure out what it meant until they realized it they meant tampering with food and drugs in America.

It's not a new concept, in other words.

29. IMHO...
... we have about as much a chance of thwarting all domestic terrorist attacks as we do of cleaning up Washington next week.

We are sitting ducks folks, and the paltry measures taken in tbe name of "homeland security" don't address even 1% of the problem.

Thanks to the great wisdom of our glorious leaders we will be living with terror for the foreseeable future.
