Oil of Olay presents... ICE WARS 2004.... USA vs. THE WORLD
OK, does anyone else find this ice skating special's Orwellian title patently offensive, absurd, and a mockery of a gracious "sport"?
I think this says it all for me about what this country has come to symbolize: a corporate sponsored commercial mecca that sells the superficial and false hope of outer beauty for it's self-centered couch potato masses, while actors/celebrities/athletes/soldiers act out our nationalistic ferver and entertain us in "cut-throat" competition for fame, fortune, and titles of honor. War is now the common metaphor we are told to live by. I hope they keep their skate blades sharp.

1. I was instantly horrified when I saw this commercial.
Though, unfortunately, not suprised.

3. This was the event's 11th year under that name .........
........ we commented on the inappropriateness of the name but, as I said, it has been going on for 11 years. In the actual event there was nothign whatever offensive or war-like about it.

4. I know but the world won tonight
It was in North Carolina and there was clear bias to the "hometeam". I can handle that as long as the judging was fair, but it wasn't. Kurt Browning--from Canada--got low scores on his first skate, but did well the second time around. I wish we could have seen who the judges were. The second judge seemed like a biased jerk by the scores they were giving.

I thought it was great. I love the costumes and the show. It's just that--a show to entertain and it did:D

6. Ice wars has been going on for 10 plus years!
Sorry, closet ice skating wathcher enthusiast!!!

Seriously, it has been an event for a decade or more.

It just has a horrible feel to it now that we really ARE up against the world.
