Can anyone help with my daughter's history day project?
She's doing the Kennedy Nixon Debate and their impact on communication

She needs pictures or articles about media spin rooms (present time)andor suggestions on how to depict them

2. Yes, she's got plenty from there
but she's bringing it up to the present time

She needs pictures or articles on the media spin rooms that exist after debates

Any ideas on how to depict them if we come up empty on real pictures?

4. google: inside a media spin room
Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 02:49 PM by dirtyduck
several helpful articles with some details...

The spin room was in an adjoining area about the size of a basketball court,
where Democratic and Republican surrogates moved about trailed by hordes or smatterings of reporters.

Aides held signs to identify each potential spinner, from Commerce Secretary Don Evans to former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to Maura Satchel, "military mom."

http://www.csmonitor.com/2003/1212/p11s01-coop.htm
Somewhere under a dozen or more boom mikes, hand-held minicams, and tape recorders, Howard Dean, Democratic candidate for president and red meat for the evening news, has begun to answer questions. The spin room of Tuesday night's presidential post-debate was in full, salivating session.

The spin room. It's a concept so integral to modern presidential politics that a friendly debate organizer outside the press room directs traffic. "Spin? That building," she instructs, pointing toward a sign marked - yes - "Spin Center Media Entrance."

5. the spin rooms didn't start until ronald reagan
that's when his aides had to come out and explain what the heck reagan was talking about.

6. Don't Google
Try some of the Web subject directories for vetted sites:

Librarians' Index to the Internet: www.lii.org

Internet Public Library: www.ipl.org

7. I got this from my Communications teacher in 1975. See if your daughter
can get pictures that illustrate these features:

1. Kennedy wore a dark suit that stood out from the TV station set background. Nixon wore a light gray suit that blended into it.

2. Kennedy looked fresh as a daisy, well groomed, and relaxed. Nixon was sweating profusely on the brow and it dripped down his face. He was wearing tons of pancake make-up to hide his 5:00 shadow (whiskers).

3. Kennedy stood erect with good posture. Nixon slouched forward.

In short, the appearance of the Kennedy may have cinched the election. There were reports that people who only listened to the debates on the radio believed that Nixon won the debates as they could not see him as the television audiences did.
