Which candidate got the most applause at tonight's debate?
In your honest opinion, setting your personal choice aside, which candidate garnered the most appreciation from the crowd?

Who got the least?

3. Gephardt and Kerry, imo.
The others had strong applause off and on, but, it sounded most consistently for Gep and Kerry.

Color me surprised. (Throwing Geppy in there really gave it the feel of legitimacy)

I'm just kidding! Glad you thought he did well.(Edit: Won't see it until 10PST on the Left Coast, but I hate Geppy and he did well the last debate.)

31. Hey, if you think it's fair
for Dean to attack other Dems buy mischaracterizing their votes, then it's fair for me to point out why he is wrong to do so.

Note that I never make any comments about his personal life, take shots at his family or his physical appearance. I stick to what he has said and done in the political arena. That's fair.

21. Gephardt absolutely - he clearly attacked Bush
Gephardt publicly called Bush a "failure" - which most Democrats have been reluctant to do. All the candidates were good, I hope they all mention the fact that 911 was Bush's Biggest Failure Of All, and makes him unqualified to be president (as if he ever were).

The Democratic party was awesome tonight.

6. Dude, you picked the wrong forum.
LOL...are you a Lieberman staffer?
That's the only explanation for your ludicrous assertion that the only candidate who got LITTLE TO NO APPLAUSE was connecting with the audience. I know...I WATCHED THE DAMN THING!

8. are we watching the same debate????
joe got next to nada, nil, zilch applause. even his 'jokes' were met with groans. why is he there? why doesn't he just wait and run against or with *? really sorry sharpton didn't make it. everybody else did pretty well. dennis needs to keep his cool and quit being so scrappy against his fellow candidates. i tune him out when he starts yipping away like a scrappy puppy, even when i agree with the positions he's taking. that combativeness just turns me off!!!

in kind! joe got "groans and boos" from the audience!

So yeah...you are so not saying what Really happened!

But you might know that someone pops on and says the contrary of what really happened.

18. speaking of lights going on in people's heads
i thought Lieberman had some very good moments talking about racial equality and immigration toward the end of the debate ...

but your assessment that "Joe is the only serious challenger" suggests you may have been watching something other than the debate I watched ...

perhaps you had tuned in to an old rerun of Fantasy Island ...

10. tonight's scorecard
i really hate these horserace questions but, what the hell ...

here's my scorecard for tonight ... my disclaimer, i'm somewhat leaning towards Kucinich but i'm not supporting anyone yet ... also, i thought all the candidates did extremely well ... i'm basing this on audience reaction and how i thought, issues aside, the presentations would sell ...

best performers: 1. Braun 2. Gephardt 3. Lieberman (yeah, i don't like him either) ...

middle tier: 4. Dean 5. Kucinich

lower tier: 6. Kerry 7. Graham 8. Edwards

no need to defend your candidate here ... i think they all did very well ... those in my lower tier landed there because, while i thought they all had some good moments, they just seemed a little lackluster ... with Kerry, maybe it was because i just heard his announcement speech ... it was somewhat like watching a rerun ...

15. no real disagreement here ... but he had some very stong moments
yup ... if i remember correctly, and i'm never sure i remember anything correctly, he got booed when he attacked Dean ... and rightly so ...

but still, i think he was extremely articulate talking about "cultural discrimination" (my words, not his) and how it affected his life and the lives of his grandparents and parents ... it's one of the few topics he's good at ... and much of the debate focussed on issues of concern to immigrants ...

30. agreed on immigration issues, but
I just heard the "Dean Depression" remark on NPR. (And "Hello?"). The press just eats up the negative garbage. For that reason, Gephardt stands out, because his "This president is a miserable failure" is getting repeated, and it goes after the ultimate target.

Well, you could blame the press, but the candidates have to be aware of how the press works and be responsible in the way they express their disagreements.

If it weren't for the dog fight with Dean stories, e.g., there might be more attention this morning on how the candidates bashed Ashcroft.

24. totally agree
If I was non political and this was my first introduction to the candidates, I would pretty much agree with your assessment. I would probably have put Edwards in the second tier with Kucinich and Dean.

I've never seen him on a roll before like tonight.

He was definately the pleasant surprise of the night.

Everybody was pretty solid.

Joe pissed of the crowd, as usual.

Dean had the most Clinton-like hand gestures and Gephardt sounded like Daddy hisself.
