4. As a man and responsible adult
who has four children and twelve grandchildren I want desperately to say I disagree with you, that the foetus is a part of the man as well as thus he has responsibilities to it, but, I cannot.

6. It takes a big person to admit what you just said.
And I salute you for it!

Unfortunately, DU does not offer a "saluting" emoticon, but the sentiment is there, I assure you. :hi:

7. The responsibility of the man
is to help prevent the conception of the embryo/fetus/newborn if he cannot spend 18 years or so helping take care of the child.

And yes, I am furious that all these rich fat old white men debate this matter as though it has anything to do with claiming 18 years out of THEIR lives!!!

As Simone deBeauvoir said, If men got pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament.

I keep hoping to see a bumpersticker saying: "Protect your precious preborn children: Keep them in your testicles"

8. well of course it is
but even the best of contraception is not 100% effective you know.....but the point of this thread is not that men should take responsibility but that women should be the final arbiter of their own bodies......

Nice DeBeauvoir quote......

9. Remember Gloria Steinem's "If Men Could Menstruate?"
The entire debate would be different. I, too, can't stand seeing men in suits debating our rights to our own reproduction, and I applaud the men who are good enough to recognize that no part of our bodies, including our wombs, belong to them. (My husband included!)

5. Thanks. More and more the media discusses this issue with NO female input
It is so creepy, to put it mildly.

10. Seems to me
the religious right should support abortion.
Isn't it better to go to heaven without having to go though all the earthly temptations?

18. No. It means men ought to shut the fuck up and...
...let a woman decide what's best for her body. You don't see women trying to outlaw vasectomies now, do you?

12. I think I can really relate to the abortion issue as a man.
Basically, to be anti-choice is to believe the government has the right to force me to let my body be a life support system for another person for nine months and I get no choice about it.

Or, another example would be the government forcing me to undergo surgery to remove a kidney to be used in another person and I have no choice in the matter.

Of course she was talking about Braxton Hicks contractions, but it works well in this case too. :hi:

15. Pat Robertson - Unwed Father
You know he knocked up his wife BEFORE he married her.

I guess he figures if he had to take a shotgun walk down the altar, everyone else should, too.
