and the author of a book, "Hard News" that looks at scandals in the NYT.

Mnookin: Like the pressure to become more up-to-the-minute and snazzier and feature more entertainment and less in-depth news. People don't think of the New York Times as succumbing to those pressures. But some of what Howell Raines was trying to do was the Times's version of being snazzier and quicker.
