OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada reported Monday that its airport screening staff had lost more than 1,100 pieces of clothing and identification this year but insisted the missing items posed no threat to security.

Officials also denied media allegations that some of the objects had been put up for sale on Internet auctioneer e-Bay.

The news is nevertheless something of an embarrassment for Ottawa, which is still viewed by some U.S. commentators as being too lax on security in the wake of the Sept. 11 airliner attacks on the United States

CATSA said it had issued about 75,000 items of uniform to screeners in the first nine months of 2004. Of the missing items, some 226 carried the authority's logo.

3. Old News
MSNBC MONTHS ago showed a reporter going to the market in Baghdad where they were SELLING US Military uniforms, munitions, etc. The man told him the Iraqi police forces were stealing them and then selling them to shop owners. The reporter asked if anybody was buying this stuff and who they were, but the man refused to say.
