Some thoughts from Senator Boxer on the recall.
I just got a fund raising letter from Senator Barbara Boxer. I'd like to share parts of it with DU.

<snip>
As I sit down after a long day of campaigning for my Senate race in 2004, I can't help but feeling like "Barbara in Wonderland".

Despite the fact that the Presidential and Senate primaries in California are less than 6 months away, all eyes are focused on the campaign to recall Governor Gray Davis. One major candidate compared his decision to run for the highest office in our state to his decision to get a bikini wax! Another candidate said we've had a BROWN (Pat or Jerry) and GRAY (Davis) and that now it is time for a BLONDE. Wake me up when it's over.

Seriously, I believe this recall is very damaging to our state. Less than a year ago, we had an election for Governor. Because they didn't like the results, a group of wealthy, disgruntled right wing activists have spent millions to put the recall on the ballot. Our state's bond rating has been downgraded in part because of the uncertainty around this recall election. As a former stockbroker, I know that the financial markets want to see stability. Our state faces serious challenges, and all attention had been diverted to this recall election.

I am planning to vote NO on the recall and YES for Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante. I am hoping for a surprise ending to this story - that the people of California wake up and defeat this recall.
<snip>

So, she goes on about her travels campaigning and how impressed she is with the grassroots support in the state. She mentions the candidates who are poised to strike out and attack her and how much Repuke money they have in their coffers.

Well, I like Barbara and I know she has always gone to bat for us even under challenging circumstances. Incidentally, she voted NO on the Iraqi war resolution unlike her colleague Senator Dianne Feinstein. I know this isn't much of a post, but I felt better knowing how she felt about the recall circus. I hope any DU'ers feel the same too knowing that even she feels threatened and disgusted by this like we do.

1. I'm not a Californian but I have to say that I would have felt a whole lot
better if her name was on the ballot for the recall.
I would have rather seen it as "No to the recall and YES to Boxer!!!"

3. Yes, in a perfect world it would have been that way.
On the other hand they were trying to push DiFi on the ballot. Thank god she said no. I admired her a little better when she did that because I haven't been very happy with her recently.

8. Never liked her to begin with
Unfortunately, Dear Dianne and I go a bit too far back. She's a tough old bird - that's about all I can say for her.

San Francisco was way better off without her! :grr:

10. Overwhelmingly?
800,000 recall signatures in a population of 34 million residents is not overwhelming. Just wait until the population turns out to vote and you will see.
