Rush Limbaugh defending steroid use
Heard him talking about it at lunch and couldn't wait to get home and post it here. He said basically, "If the players that aren't juicing aren't complaining, then what's the big deal. I suppose someone is going to call me up and say, 'but what about the kids that see this and think it's OK for them to use steroids' These guys aren't role models, they haven't gone to role model class or anything" Has he finally lost his mind completely? What kind of family values is steroid use???

1. Empathy amongst criminals.
Ask some of the old pro wrestlers where juice gets you. Ask Lyle Alvedo. It ain't pretty.

9. Lyle Alzado, 1949-1992
One of the local SF Bay Area stations attempted to use Lyle for a very, very brief time as a sportscaster. He was a mess, it didn't last, and it was an embarassment for all.

Here's some text from a Web Site that sums up his steroid experience:

http://www.geocities.com/bigcory94533/alzado.html

Alzado, Lyle Martin b. 1949. d. 1992.
Football player. He played for the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Browns and the LA Raiders. Lyle, a true defensive standout for the Broncos, was the first Yankton College (South Dakota) player ever drafted by the NFL and was a two-time all conference pick. From those humble beginnings, his combination of quickness and strength, provided Lyle with the pass-rushing skills to start with the Broncos in 1971.
His 4.75 40-yard dash time, coupled with his tremendous strength - Lyle once had 27 wins as an amateur boxer - ranked Lyle as one of pro football's top pass rushers. His status as a premier defensive lineman was also enhanced by his versatility - he played both end and tackle in the front four with All-pro status. Lyle Alzado was 42 when he died of brain cancer. An American football SuperBowl hero with the Los Angeles Raiders in the 1984, Alzado owned a restaurant in West Hollywood and had embarked on a career as a movie actor when he died in 1992 after going public. "I started taking anabolic steroids in 1969 and never stopped," he admitted during his pain-racked final days. "It was addicting, mentally addicting. Now I'm sick, and I'm scared. Ninety per cent of the athletes I know are on the stuff. We're not born to be 300lbs or jump 30ft. But all the time I was taking steroids, I knew they were making me play better. I became very violent on the field and off it. I did things only crazy people do. Once a guy sideswiped my car and I beat the hell out of him. Now look at me. My hair's gone, I wobble when I walk and have to hold on to someone for support, and I have trouble remembering things. My last wish? That no one else ever dies this way."
Riverview Cemetery, Portland, Oregon, USA.
Cause of Death: Brain cancer brought on by excessive steroid use.

16. I've heard people question whether the steroid use
is really what killed Alzado or not; it could be one of those cases where there were other causes, but he happened to be taking steroids as well - sort of like breast implants. I don't know for sure, but I'm not convinced that they're as dangerous as they're be made out to be.

I've heard some pretty convincing arguments that suggest that steroids, especially those produced today, are actually pretty safe if used properly or especially if used under the supervision of a doctor.

I hate to say it, but I have to agree with Rush on this one, and so should all those people that believe the War On Drugs is an infringement of peoples civil liberties and is a disaster for other reasons as well: crime, asset forfiture,etc...

I'd say if major league baseball were to decide that they didn't want to make a big deal about it I'd say thats fine with me. The athletes are adults and should be able to choose whether they want to take them or not. McCain is way out of control, imo.

Sorry, that wasn't all directed at you - I just used your post to rant. Thx.

2. The same family values
That think Oxycontin is OK for folks, like Rush, who tell other people what to think for a living. Deluded family values, in other words.

6. It's perfectly understandable. They have to neutralize the issue...
...for Arnie's sake. If you reduce the taboo of steroids, make it on a par with vitamins or weight-gain powders, then it not only clears the way to making it's use among the rabid high-school football fan/parents to give their kids but it erases the drugs negative connection to the gropenator.

13. He does not spout bullshit for nothing.
He's a big jar of fascist vaseline. Everytime he opens his ugly trap, he's greasing the way for his evil masters.

It's not just bullshit. It has a purpose.

10. Maybe he took them
to shrink the cyst on his posterior that kept him stateside while many other young Americans were dying in Vietnam. Now THAT makes sense.

20. He couldn't shrink that cyst.
If he shrank it, they would have sent his fat ass to Vietnam and "Jeff Christie" would have been engraved on a slab of black granite.

steroids make the mans' hood not work. (LOL). Seriously. No Viagra will fix it either. It also causes it to shrink. (medical fact).

21. Part of his rational was that it's just like any other plastic surgery
We don't mind fakery in one area, why should we mind fakery in the other, he "reasoned."

Plastic surgery doesn't give you liver damage though.

Figures Drug Boy wouldn't have a problem with chemical enhancement.

What-ever.
