busholini* (the pro-lifer!) Kills Pregnant Women and Children!
http://www.socialistworker.co.uk/article.php4?article_id=4942

~snip~
Rose Gentle, the mother of British soldier Gordon Gentle who died in Iraq in June, visited four year old Iraqi orphan Aysha Saleem at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester on Thursday of last week.

A US bombing raid destroyed Aysha’s house in Fallujah on 4 October killing eight members of her family, including her pregnant mother and three year old brother.

Aysha was the only survivor. She was badly injured, with a broken shoulder and broken ankle bone, as well as shrapnel wounds.

Mazin Younis, the chair of the Iraqi League in Britain, brought Aysha back to Britain for treatment, along with her uncle Mohammed Aljasin. Rose took Aysha presents when she visited her.

Rose told Socialist Worker, “I met Aysha at the hospital when she was getting her plaster changed. She had a container in which she carried all her mum’s belongings. It was heartbreaking."

1. Figures it's not in the US media.
I really think that if stories like this were on the nightly news and all Americans could see it with their own eyes, that support for this war would erode a bit.

3. Re: stories like this
My Republican "pals" told me I need to stop reading stories like this, because it only upsets me.

Needless to say, I no longer have ANY fucking Republican "pals" in my life. I try to be open-minded about different viewpoints, and have tried to be tolerant of those with different politics than mine. But I've decided that it's no longer a mere difference of opinion; it's a matter of basic human values (not to mention the basic survival of our country and our world). I can't be friends, or friendly, with someone who doesn't possess basic human decency. Anyone who voted for Bush voted for this photograph and for the hundreds of thousands of cases like it that were NOT photographed. The Bush supporters want MORE photos like this. Being friendly with such people only encourages them.
:cry::puke::cry::puke::cry::puke::cry::puke::cry::puke:

Our country really could've been an amazing force for good in this world, but we fucked up. We got arrogant and greedy. Maybe another country will do better -- it's too late for the USA.

5. This is sickening.

But try to convince a repuke that we're destroying Iraqi lives and experience complete denial. I had a long-time friend who works at a CBS affiliate finally admit that the situation is "a mess," but he is still absolutely convinced it was the right thing to do.

For someone who works in the "news" business, he was remarkably uniformed -- had never heard about Dan Rather's comments in Europe re. the US media running scared, or the chimp's microphone picking up someone feeding him his lines at the D-Day remembrance in France, or 100,000 dead Iraqis. Looked at me like I was out of my mind. When I got home, I sent him links to all three stories. Think he e-mailed back with righteous indignation that the American media isn't doing its job? Think again. Not a word.

6. Exactly, LDA!
One of my former Repub "buddies" is a strident pro-lifer (I prefer the new term "pro-criminalization"), but you could show him a million photos of charred/dead/maimed Iraqi children, and his ability to blow it off as "collateral damage" and "it's sad, but that's the way of war" or "freedom comes at a terrible price" would make your head explode. How can they disconnect from humanity so easily, merely because the victims have brown skin? I'm wondering how they'd feel if Iraqis had pale skin?

I'm just so sickened and jaded by these attitudes. I frankly do NOT want to welcome such people into the Dem party: I do NOT want to reach out to them or embrace them or understand them or dumb down the Dem party to their level so that they'll vote with us. I'm not sure such people can be changed or educated; can you imbue someone with a conscience when they're in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond?

8. This was one of the main issues involved in my recent family blow-up.
I sent my mother pictures of dead and injured Iraqi children to wake her up...no dice. :( I should have known better.

I haven't spoken to her since that date...when was it? I don't even care. :(

There were other issues that made the relationship toxic, but the hypocrisy was a source of great sadness to me.

9. of course we knew he kills pregnant women and children the minute he
instituted the global gag rule, 2nd day in office.

Or check CEDAW for another example of his singling out women, pregnant women, and children for death. Also, for continued violent victimization, being barred from education, forced marriage, forced childbearing.
