Just overheard a Freeper discussion at work
Some stuff I picked up. Amazing how well the propaganda works:

1) "Unfit for Command" was the best documented collection of facts ever put into print. John Kerry was frighteningly scary.
2) Teresa Heinz Kerry was drunk for all her public appearances and she was more elitist than Hillary & her baking cookies comment.
3) Anybody immigrating to this country should have a job & house lined up within 6 months, as well as be able to learn English in that time.

Ack - wasn't the main point of 'Unfit for Command' debunked on Fox News, of all places?

1. Ask them why NONE of the Navy's documents matched the stories in the book.
Not ONE government document.

ALL the Naval documents backed up Kerry and his crewmates.

10. Tell them you'd like to SEE the documents that prove their version
and ask if they would bet their paychecks on those documents from the Swifties or the documents from the Navy?

3. Don't know what to say about the freeper comments...

If you can muster up the courage to do so - confront them - maybe one at a time at the appropriate moment. Each time they speak out with no one objecting they get stronger. The power of social pressure is *HUGE.* We fear being ignored, ridiculed, harrassed, fired -- and little of what we fear would come to pass if we speak out now. Let a year or two go by and it will be as bad as we might imagine.

Day before yesterday I posted a color map of Cuyahoga county showing the majority of spoiled ballots occurred in African American areas of the county. I thought I would catch flack from it - so far not a word. A couple of good conversations and no flack.

I am glad you are a DU'er -- I get a lot of support from having my ideas respected here. Hang with us, we'll help keep each other sane.

7. I try something like that
I'll take good articles I find or that I see linked from DU, Truthout (Will Pitt articles) or Paul Krugman and put them in the men's room or the kitchen at the office... I especially like leaving articles with Republicans bashing Bush.

11. Very educational!
I've also heard it is good to take all of one's left-leaning magazines and leave them in doctors and dentists offices...

:-)

4. sounds like a real circle jerk
oh well - if mutual masturbation floats their boat, we should give them a few more talking points:

1. all immigrants are potential terrorists
2. all non-white Americans are lazy welfare thieves
3. homosexuality is immoral and gross, unless it's your Swedish girlfriend and her cousin in your bed.
4. white men everywhere are oppressed by the evil liberals
5. religious people everywhere are having their first amendment rights violated by not being allowed to walk into your house and preach to you for two hours a day.
6. the NRA is the most powerful force in the universe
7. the second amendment is in jeopardy because you can't sell whatever kind of gun you want to whoever the hell you want.

oh please go on little freepers . . . don't worry, it all flakes off when it dries out.

9. On one point...
> 6. the NRA is the most powerful force in the universe

That one is just about true. Look at how many guns there are in this country and how much gun violence there is, and you'll see just how strong an influence they have. After all, if they weren't more powerful than the party, why don't we have sensible gun laws after over 70 years (since the NFA) of federal laws?

5. Send their names to the local army recruiters
NUmbers are down and I'd think the recruiters would love to have be able to offer the opportunity to serve their country to these true patriots. Should be an easy sale for the recruiters.

12. I was discussing gay marriage issue with a couple of coworkers
and I was amazed how homophobic they were. Both have degrees, one used to teach college. We work with lots of gay people and they don't hate them, but they were totally against gay marriage, or even civil unions. I tried to explain that if the gov't sanctions marriage then since gay people are citizens they should not be shut out of those rights. If the gov't doesn't want to recognize gay marriage they oughta get out of recognizing ANY marriage. They just didn't want it and really couldn't explain why except it was clear they didn't like gay people that much and didn't want to give them any rights. This was eye opening for me, cause I had always thought they were open minded and one is even a Dem who voted for Kerry on economic reasons and due to the war.
