Wonder how the freepers like Bush's gun control - New Freedom Commission? |
|
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 02:41 PM by blm
So, part of Bush's idea for his Orwellian named New Freedom bill is nationwide mental testing, first all children, and then before long, it will be all adults and your ability to buy a legal gun will be determined in how you answer their test questions.
I wonder, if a person answers that they disagree strongly with the direction the president is taking the country, will they be denied the right to own a gun? If they express no interest in religion? Policy of pre-emption?

5. I've seen post after post on this subject. . . |
|
but no link to the actual proposal itself. A week or so back, you had a half dozen links in a few of your posts, but only one or two actually connected to an active article. I asked back then if you could provide something better, but you must not have seen it. Can you provide a link to the proposal, or at least to a good analysis of the proposal?

12. No one has a link to the actually proposal, even the freeps are pissed |
|
about that. All we have is Bush's plan to screen every American for mental illness, and Ron Paul's bill Let Parents Raise their Kids Act, which was voted down.
There was a link to conservativenews.com about two people being fired for talking about it to the press but now I can't find it.
All my links worked, I wonder what went wrong.

19. I think people are concerned. |
|
But there might be a certain amount of denial: if you look at it a naive way, the NFI looks like a public health initiative!
And some threads have spun it as BUSH IS GOING TO CONTROL YOUR MIND! when that is probably not the case. I don't think the BUSHCO is going to be giving free drugs to anyone.
BUT -- and this is why I think the thing is a problem -- it's going to guilt a LOT of parents into getting "help" (ie medications) for their children even if the parents don't think there's a problem. And I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be a mechanism for getting "problem" kids out of the school system. And an even more paranoid view is that it's aimed at ultimately destroying public schools (a lot of parents -- liberal and conservative alike -- will pull their kids out if this comes to their local school).
It's certainly aimed at enriching big pharma.
Maybe it's too nebulous right now, and people are waiting to freak out when they see it in action.

Finally we might get some sensible gun control! Now if we only allowed the 1 out of a hundred or so people that are actually safe with a gun, that would be even better. Of course, that 1 out of a hundred doesn't really need a gun, but it would be a start.

10. "THEIR test questions" as in BushInc's test questions. |

> "You answered liberal on your political leanings, NO GUN FOR YOU!"
Then you wouldn't have one of those things anyway. What's the problem with that?
> "You believe in checks and balances in government, NO GUN FOR YOU!"
How many people do you know that believe in checks and balances in government that own one of those things? I bet it's zero.
> "You say live and let live is your golden rule, NO GUN FOR YOU!"
Anyone that claims to buy one of those things for self-defense believes that murder is right, so how could they believe in "live and let live?" Those things are made to kill. You wouldn't have one if you believe that.
> "You don't believe the Bible is literal, NO GUN FOR YOU!"
I don't know anyone that owns one of those things that isn't a member of that religious sect.
So, everything you've listed pretty much already exists. How about something new?

16. Hello, some of use actually express our second ammendment rights |
|
Hunting, unfortunately, is very nesscessary there are so many deers around here they are all starving.
Plus many hunters donate the meat to those less fortunate.
But since the second ammendment was never about hunting, I am glad that people own guns, even though I have two small children and do not.

18. Look the right to bear arms is in the second ammendment so |
|
that if the government ever becomes so corrupt and fascist people can revolt.
If you take away those rights only the millitary is allowed guns, I don't jive with that.
I don't own a gun b/c I have two small children and do not want them around guns.
However I fully support the right for Americans to own guns, how does that not compute.
