This is what drives me nuts about politicians!
Rewatching the debate...

The moderator very clearly asked Edwards, Graham and Kerry if they would vote for Bush's requests for upwards of $60 Billion more for Iraq.

And do I know now how any of these 3 will vote? Let's see:

Edwards said he wants to know how the truth about how much it will cost. But once he knows, how will he vote? Unclear.

Graham actually came right out and said "The answer is yes". Good for him for answering clearly.

Kerry didn't answer the question at all, though he said some heartfelt things about the troops. He talked about Bush's failure of leadership and about not sending more American troops, all good, but he never said if he would vote for the $.

<Disclaimer: please don't assume I am bashing Kerry (or Edwards) because I support Dean; I like Kerry and applauded many things he said in the debate. I just hate it when they don't answer the very direct yes or no questions.>

1. Then why bring it up?
A dean supporter showing the "faults" of the other candidates - this sounds like bashing to me.

Unless you have some hard word against dean (yeah, right).

2. What?
Edited on Fri Sep-05-03 10:00 AM by Amerikav60
I am not allowed to discuss the other candidates? Just because I prefer one of them? What the hell??

I never said Dean would've answered clearly, either. This post had nothing to do with Dean, it's just something I observed while watching the debate.

on edit: also, please read a little closer. I gave Graham credit for answering the question, something the other 2 didn't do.

3. Oh it's not just the debate...........
they do it all the time. They refuse to just say yes or no. They hedge every way possible and still, you have no answer. It is maddening. Dems do it more than the pukes. Even the pundits. They just will not answer the question! Period. I'm left sitting in my chair screaming at the TV "just answer the question". I can't speak for anyone else but the thing that I initially liked about Dean was that he just came out and said what I was thinking. And none of the others would. I like that plain-talk on issues. Just tell me what you think, don't keep me guessing and wasting my time. I have noticed (to be fair) that Dean(and he is my guy at this point) has done this lately. I hope he stops doing this or he risks becoming like the others.

5. It's annoying as hell!
I know this is the hallmark of all politicians. And it's what turns a lot of people off to listening to them at all. So instead they pick their candidate based on his hair or name or whatever the media decides to tell them.

But this was very blatant, the moderator asked the question plain as day. Graham gets credit for answering it in his very first sentence.

4. Oh, for God's sake, people can't say anything at all about
your precious Kerry or any other candidate, or make any observations at all, if they're a Dean supporter??? PLEASE, get real and grow a skin thicker than paper!

6. I do actually want to know the answer to this!
How will they vote when Bush comes and asks for a gazillion more dollars to prop up his failed efforts in Iraq?

Seems like a tough one; none of these guys want to give the impression that they don't support the troops...and I believe that they all sincerely do support the troops themselves, if not the reason they are there.
