Racism? Hate Crimes 2003: Charlotte, NC v. Portland; It isn't pretty.
This is from the FBI. A massive pdf.

Agency__# of quarters___Race___Rel.__Sex/orien.___Ethnicity___Disability

Portland______4__________47_____4________32___________11__________1

Charlotte_____4___________7_____1_________0____________3__________0

Does this prove Portland is Racist? Or any more Racist than Charlotte? Not really. I think it does show however that it's not lily pure when it comes to Racism. Perhaps they've even tried so hard to be good that they've inflated their numbers? Perhaps, but that'd take a lot of hot air to inflate up to 47...Or maybe Charlotte didn't report theirs? Maybe, it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

Is North Carolina racist? Fuck yes it is, I've never in my life been bombarded with so much shit, it's disgusting. I've posted yesterday about the absolutely evil piece of shit that assumed, because I'm White I guess, that the use of the word n*gg*r would be "funny" to me.

I hate that type of redneck fuckwit, HATE THEM!

But however bad the South, or North Carolina, may be there exists in all of America, even bastions of Liberalism, Racism, Racial violence (Some anti-White too just not nearly as much.) even in Portland.

Why post this?

Because the way that the Oregon defenders talk you'd think they haven't a clue as to what's happening in their own back yard. At least I KNOW that North Carolina is over 50% shithead (Really nasty motherf*ckers), why can't others see their own blemishes?

To ignore reality is to empower everything that's so screwed up with this country, this World.

For the record I like Portland, fact is I'd prefer it to Charlotte. But it's got it's warts and so does the entire state. Worse than NC? Probably not, NC has some places that I'll NEVER set foot in; As open about their ills? Not even close.

that Portland is a very high crime area in general, and I was shocked reading it. but crime is a huge problem there so that might account for some of it. i dont remember seeing charlotte up there...

15. That would be the point.
Racism is everywhere, even in so called Liberal Meccas. Some worse than others, some better, some about the same. Sadly that fact is lost when the Portland/Oregon defenders show up.

Is it intentional ignorance on their part or just geographical?

8. Once people start making racism into a geographical thing
they tend to ignore what happens close to them (if they aren't from the south). Sorry, but it exists in every state in the union.

11. I live in the triangle area of NC
and I am not a redneck by default. My area is very heavy suburban with $300,000 + valuation houses and highly concentrated educated people. They didn't vote in the majority for bush because they are redneck trash racists, but because they buy into the republican economic propaganda about the tax cuts and a growth economy. We need to tell them the truth about the repubs instead of calling them all rednecks. Racists, bigots, etc. are everywhere, its not just a southern phenomena. Crime related to these hate issues is an American problem. I'm certainly not defending the south's dubious past but giving a perspective on the statistics.

13. More news from that beatific oasis of brotherhood known as Oregon:
A flurry of racist hate fliers found in Eugene neighborhoods has prompted denouncements by the city manager, the police chief and the Human Rights Commission.

The fliers, denigrating gays, Jews, immigrants and others, have appeared in at least three neighborhoods in the past week....

City officials said the fliers may be part of a larger increase in hate activity. State law enforcement reported 21 incidents of alleged hate crimes in Eugene in the three-month period ending Sept. 30 - the highest number in recent memory, said Greg Rikhoff, the city's human rights manager.

The incidents included 13 involving possible bias crimes based on race, color or national origin, five based on sexual orientation, four based on religion and one based on political affiliation. Some incidents included more than one basis for discrimination.

14. I don't think it matters to Oregonians
We can post statistics, news, articles...and they just don't care.

Racism is not ever going to go away in this country because the white community chooses to remain ignorant, and pretend like they personally are not involved.

Sad.

That's why you hear about it in the news when somebody passes around racist fliers in Eugene.

23. I'm not sure what's up with the Oregon bashing....
It's a state with much in common with other states (some thoughtful people, some assholes, etc.) and some cultural distinctions, such as a somewhat visible contingent of earth-friendly and peacenik types, who are in sharp contrast to many of the Bible-believing private-property types.

My personal experience is that the latter (RW) types here are more willing to be thoughtful and open than are their counterparts in the South, perhaps because the Southern RW types are in control of the culture and don't really want to listen to the (much smaller number of) visibly LW types around them. Good for the progressives in the South; they've got their work cut out for them. But please don't paint Oregon with the broad brush of "ivory tower-ism" when the truth is much more subtle than you allow.
