January issue of Consumer Reports!!
Excellent articles on Mad Cow, other bacteria,
feed industry practices - beef & chicken feeds
and what the Agriculture Dept is NOT doing.

Article did not mention that some people think
chickens are mad cow carriers.

Also mentions fish farms and their problems.
CR did not mention the Sri Lanka? fish farms
that were recently closed due to the fish
having a virus that IS transmissible to humans.

Also mentioned some Environmental organizations
that are investigating but govt does not listen,
just puts everything on delay and "maybe next year".

Do you recall the recent soybean problem with
soybean rust and aphids?

Interesting comment about soybeans:
"In October, soybean prices were back to previous
levels, which gives them less incentive to use
meat and bone meal." (in the cattle, pig, chicken feed)

not our earth....

If the politicians can help their corporate sponsors make a buck, a few dead Americans are certainly worth it to them.

First, we need to get voting machines that COUNT VOTES ACCURATELY, and

Second, we need to make sure everyone who is eligible to vote, registers, and attempts to CAST a vote, gets that opportunity, and

Third, once elections are true and honest, we need to get together and replace every frikkin politician anywhere that forgets to look out for the POPULATION, rather than the CORPORATION!!

Fourth, We need to RE-REGULATE the media, so that it goes back to the Fairness Doctrine rules, and we need to make sure (by law) the media is NEVER AGAIN "deregulated", and

Fifth, we need to elect politicians that will help us pass a constitutional amendment that makes corporations NOT have the same rights or status as humans.

In other words, we need a revolution.

5. If you can find a Vanity Fair Nov. 2004 read: Order The Fish....
You will never eat meat again!

Scariest Quote in This Month’s Vanity Fair
“One of the U.S.D.A.’s first actions after Bush took office was to halt the salmonella testing of ground beef purchased for the national school lunch program.”
– from “Order the Fish,” an article by Eric Schlosser

8.  Thanks! Will read on next trip to library. Today's
paper had this article. Where do these fools get off
deciding *they* have the right to make *my* choices as
to what I ingest, especially since I am not at risk
for herpes, AIDS etc.

Should farmers be able to grow crops genetically altered to help stop the spread of human diseases and cure afflictions ranging from herpes to heart disease to HIV?

Not in Oregon, say a group of doctors and others who want the Legislature to impose a four-year moratorium on so-called biopharming.

The state chapter of Physicians for Social Responsibility worries that such crops would infiltrate the environment, exposing residents to drugs they don't need.

...
North, who has worked more than a year on the physician group's opposition to all genetically modified foods, said biopharming threatens to expose the public to microscopic levels of medicines drifting through the air.

6. I read an article yesterday concerning vegetables and how
the level of nutrients in them is decreasing due to farmers favoring vegetables for their longevity and appearance. They look great, but they that's about all they do.

Another reason to go organic and plant your own garden.

9.  Definitely. A garden is a must.
Not sure how much we can afford to do next year -
pellet stove, greenhouse etc but a good-sized
greenhouse is on the list.

I also think some of those small or columnar
fruit trees for small spaces is a good idea.

I wish I had the time to read 100 or so
on-line papers every day to see what is being
published in other areas of the country -
declining fish, plant diseases and insects,
bio- this and bio- that etc.

I guess the only consolation I can find is that
ALL of what the bastards are doing will blow
back on them and theirs at some point.
