Fort Carson should focus on its mission

Short-lived attempt to bar The Denver Post from covering the base was unnecessary distraction from clearing up medical-hold backlog.

Military officials briefly shut off this newspaper's access to Fort Carson, a clumsy and unconstitutional effort to divert attention from some serious problems on a military base whose mission has rarely been more important.

The blocked access didn't last long and it didn't change anything, except to draw more attention to a problem regarding medical services.

Fort Carson officials were upset over a story in last Sunday's Post that detailed the logjam of soldiers awaiting medical care after returning from battle. Base officials cooperated in the reporting the story but felt their side wasn't given adequate weight.
