Is Bush Really A "Miserable Failure"?
He is on track to break a record - Herbert Hoover's record. That should be something all Repubs can be proud of. At the present time, he is running neck-to-neck with Hoover for the number of jobs lost in his term. Not an envious record. Almost makes you think they need a "Job Czar" to prevent that disaster??

As we all know, it was on his shift that terrorists attacked the WTC and the Pentagon and killed almost 3000 people. The fact that they have not attacked us since cannot bring those people back. Intelligence indicates that he knew this was in the planning before it happened but he was asleep at the wheel.

Of course, he did manage to destroy our credibility throughout the world with his pre-emptive invasion of Iraq, a nation that had not been proven to be involved with the terrorists. Now, he has us in what might be described as a quagmire, as he crawls on his hands and knees back to the UN to beg for help to get his nuts out of the fire.

So where has he succeeded? They said he was a "uniter, not a divider." We know that to be a bald-faced lie. They said he would bring honor and dignity back to the White House. That is an illusion they may wish to promote but really has no standing. With the secret energy meetings, Halliburton contracts, lying about the air quality in NYC after 9/11, lying about WMDs, lying about taxcuts creating growth, lying about flying Osama's relatives out of the country when no one else, including Senators, could get on an airplane, lying about their connections to the Saudi royal family, etc, etc...It has been one lie after another -day after day. It is not an exaggeration to say that Bush has been a "miserable failure". I challenge anyone to list his successes.

1. Brain Lamb actually asked that as the opening question this am
for callers. One called said, when ever a rethug tries to dispute that, he asks, "Name ONE thing * has done to improve this country."

I am taking that right to all my rethug friends.

3. Yes, he really really is
Worst...President...Ever!

Some will argue that he's not a failure because he's accomplishing his hidden agenda. I argue that he IS a failure as a PRESIDENT because that's NOT what a President is supposed to accomplish.

I challenge any Repubs I encounter all the time to list a single positive thing he's accomplished and you should hear the stammering...

25. Worst. President. Ever.
Edited on Fri Sep-05-03 11:25 AM by WorstPresidentEver
Bush truly is the Worst President Ever. Miserable Failure does not begin to describe just how bad he is.

3,000,000 jobs lost

9/11 - they were warned but Bush went on vacation (again)
Afghanistan - one thing Bush did not lie about was the not doing Nation Building thing.

Squandered the post 9/11 goodwill of the entire planet and alienated almost all of our friends and allies.

Iraq - What were they thinking?

6. People just don't hold him responsible for anything
Thanks to the concept of "low expectations", people associate him as being a victim of circumstance or a helpless bystander. Bush is not at the helm of the nation. He doesn't understand economics or foreign policy. The only thing he has PERSONALLY taken an active hand in is Faith Based Initiatives which turned out to a debacle as well. I think people have two different concepts of Bush and the Bush Administration. Just like they did with Raygun.

Edited on Fri Sep-05-03 10:56 AM by LoneStarLiberal
Republicans (most of whom are just cultured to hate Democrats now no matter the reason after all the Clinton-bashing) were always going to give President Bozo a free pass on anything and everything.

What is so sad to me is that moderates have given him a free pass as well. I think it is partially for the same reason that they gave Reagan one: "Well, the President isn't too smart but he has good people around him and his heart is in the right place." Since when does being a simpleton excuse excuse you from responsibility?

As I tell people who expouse this odious philosophy: "Well you know what? I have good people around me in my job, too. My heart is in the right place, too. But when something goes wrong or doesn't get done, I am the one who is responsible for it at the end of the day. Just because Bush is president doesn't mean his burden should be any different. In fact, it should be more. A whole hell of a lot more."

9. I'll quibble on words in that "miserable failure" implies he attempted to
accomplish something beneficial and useful for our country, our people and our world, but failed in that attempt. He attempted no such thing. What the bush administration attempted was to get away with all-out evil and wrongdoing to benefit their own personal selves, their wealthy and powerful friends and the wealthy in general.

Actually, he achieved this evil, except they it had repercussions they didn't intend and they didn't get away with it unnoticed.

10. No.
Think about it - they were very successful in what they set out to do. There is a difference between the Bush Junta's goals and what is good for the American people.

Tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans - they got it.
War in Iraq - they got it.
Large contracts for their friends in Iraq - they got it.
Increased power of the Federal government to spy on Americans - they got it.
No real investigation into 9/11 - they got it.
Relaxed environmental rules - they got it.

The list goes on and on. It really depends on your point of reference as to whether or not Bush is a failure.

44. Sadly, you're right
And it's interpreted by Republicans as:

Tax cuts to improve investment and help business grow.
War to finally take care of Saddam and prove America's backbone.
American benevolence in rebuilding Iraq.
Increased security to rid the country of the foreigners and terrorists.
Investigation? Why? It was Osama and Iraq and we killed 'em.
Increased logging, mining, oil resources, and eliminating those stupid regulations that inhibit business and jobs.

And the list does go on. And that is really what we're up against next election.

No, he's actually a very happy failure. Part of that happiness
is probably in that he's too stupid to even realize he's a failure
and has always been a failure, but is propped-up by his "friends".

"And when you got money,
You got lots of friends
Crowdin 'round your door.
When the money's [or the power's] gone
And all your spendin' [or usefullness] ends
They won't be 'round anymore..."

14. Concerning his record, it's sometimes two steps forward, three steps back
Take education, for example. Mr. Bush supposedly collaborated with Ted Kennedy on a new education bill, and shoveled boatloads of money into schools, etc. But Bush's tax cuts have hurt state revenues, and subsequently lowered state's abilities to increase teacher salaries, etc.

Another example: the U.S. may have caught a few terrorists and removed Saddam, but the war has stirred a nest of hornets in Iraq, and actually created an environment conducive to terrorism. And according to a recent Pew Poll, anger at the U.S. is at its highest in decades, which will produce more terrorists and terrorist threats to the U.S.

On issues like the environment, he has done nothing to move foward, though. The same goes for social security, medicare, the economy, science and technology, so on so forth et cetera et cetera.

In either case, we should get rid of him. He went on saying how all candidates should prepare good sound bites like this one (a keeper, no matter what) to explain why he is a miserable failure in every cathegory - for use on TV shows as well as in depth explanations for thinking people. I thought he was right.
From our point of view - where bush was supposed to serve the American people, Gephardt is right.

28. Failure or Puppet
Does anyone else get the feeling that Georgie or "W", was never meant to be placed in The White House to lead, but only to become the distraction necessary to keep all eyes and voices off the true objective of the BFEE. They have accomplished the destruction and de-regulation of EPA standards. They have looted the surplus with their tax give aways to their wealthy buddies who in return will pass it along to their future heirs for years on end. They gave no-bid contracts to themselves - Halliburton (Cheney), etc. They are gaining contracts for millions and millions of dollars with the electronic voting machines going into every state with inability to have an auditable paper trail and possibility of hacking the system (Sen Chuck Hagel-Diebold). They are attempting to privatise social security, federal employees, military operations, etc., etc., etc., all of which will open the door for good old nepotism. ie., Colin Powell's son = FCC, who is attempting to de-regulate our communications systems under the charade that this will open it all up to competion.

"W" is the stand-in magician who has us all watching him and his latest performance, while all the time those that actually control our government, are doing their dirty deeds with our democracy.
The short time that "W" has been in office, he and his co-horts have destroyed much of what past generations fought for. I am sure they consider themselves extremely successful.

27. Chimpy's Successes
This was just sent to me. I do not know the source, but reading Chimpy's accomplishments is breathtaking!

Accomplishments of President George Bush:

I spent the U.S. surplus and effectively bankrupted the U.S. Treasury.
I shattered the record for the largest annual deficit in U.S. history.
I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in a12-month period.
I set the all-time record for the biggest drop in the history of the U.S. stock market.
My record for environmental issues is the least of my concerns and my people are taking care of getting what I want.
I am the first president in U.S. history to enter office with a criminal record.
I set the all-time record for most days on vacation in any one year period.
After taking-off the entire month of August 2001, I then presided over the worst security failure in U.S. history.

I attacked and overtook two countries, promised to rebuild them and have not yet done so.
I am supporting development of a "Tactical Bunker Buster" nuke, a WMD.
I am getting our troops killed, under the lie of WMD components, then blaming the lie on our British friends and the CIA, which, coincidentally, my daddy used to lead.

I set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips by a U.S. president.
In my first year in office over 2-million Americans lost their jobs and that trend continues every month, leaving us in higher than ever unemployment.
I set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12-month period.
I appointed more convicted criminals to my administration than any president in U.S. history.
I set the record for least amount of press conferences than any president since the advent of television.

I signed more laws and executive orders effectively amending or ignoring the Constitution than any president in history.
I presided over the biggest energy crisis in U.S. history and refused to intervene when corruption involving the oil industry was revealed.
I presided over the highest gasoline prices in U.S. history and refused to use national reserves as past presidents have done.
I have cut health care benefits for war veterans and support a cut in duty benefits for active duty troops and their families -- in war time. But I sure enjoy visiting them on warships when I need a good photo op.

I allowed non-compete oil contracts to go to my VP's company (where he is still employed, but on "deferred compensation") and won't answer to anyone about it.
I have set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously protest me in public venues (15 million people) shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of humankind.
I've dissolved more international treaties than any president in U.S. history.
I've made my presidency the most secretive and unaccountable of any in U.S. history.
I'm proud that the members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in U.S. history. My "poorest millionaire," Condoleeza Rice, has a Chevron oil tanker named after her.
I am the first president in U.S. history to have almost all 50 states of the Union simultaneously suffer massive financial crisis.
I presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud of any market in any country in history.

I am the first president in U.S. history to order a pre-emptive attack and the military occupation of a sovereign nation, and I did so against the will of the United Nations and the world community.
I created the largest governmental department bureaucracy in the history of the United States.
I set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases, more than any president in history.
I am the first president in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the Human Rights Commission.
I am the first president in U.S. history to have the United Nations remove the U.S. from the Elections Monitoring Board.
I removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of congressional oversight, than any presidential administration in U.S. history.
I rendered the entire United Nations viewpoints irrelevant.
I withdrew the U.S. from the World Court of Law.
I refused to allow inspectors access to U.S. "prisoners of war" (detainees) and thereby have refused to abide by the Geneva Convention.
I am the first president in history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 U.S. election).

I am the all-time U.S. and world record-holder for receiving the most corporate campaign donations.
My largest lifetime campaign contributor, and one of my best friends, (Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation) presided over the largest corporate bankruptcy fraud in U.S. history.
My political party used the Enron private jets and corporate attorneys to assure my success with the U.S. Supreme Court during my 2000 election decision.
I have spent more money on polls and focus groups than any president in U.S. history.
I garnered the most sympathy for the U.S. after the World Trade Center attacks and less than a year later made the U.S. the most resented country in the world, possibly the largest failure of diplomacy in world history.
I am actively working on a policy of "disengagement" creating the most hostile of Israel-Palestine relations in at least 30 years.
I am the first to have a majority of Europeans (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and security.
I am the first president in history to have the people of South Korea feel more threatened by the U.S. than by their immediate neighbor, North Korea.
I changed U.S. policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts.
I set an all-time record for the number of administration appointees who violated U.S. law by not selling their huge personal investments in corporations bidding for U.S. contracts.
I failed to fulfill my pledge to capture Osama Bin Laden, dead or alive.
I failed to capture Saddam Hussein.
My family is very close with the Saudi Royal family, and has been for years, so I kept the pages out of the report on 9-11 that may put the Saudis in a bad light.
I failed to capture the anthrax killer who tried to murder the leaders of our country at the U.S. Capitol Building. I have no leads and no credible suspects.
Following the World Trade Center attack I have successfully prevented any PUBLIC investigation into the biggest security failure in the history of the United States.

I removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any president in U.S. history.
In a little over two years, I created the most divided country in decades, possibly the most divided since the Civil War.
I entered my office with the strongest economy in U.S. history and have turned every single economic category downward -- all in less than two years.

Records and References:
I have at least one conviction for drunk driving in Maine. My Texas driving record has been erased and is not available.
I was AWOL from the National Guard.
I refuse to take a drug test or even answer any questions about drug use.
All records of my tenure as Governor of Texas are now in my father's library, sealed, and unavailable for public view.
All records of SEC investigations into insider trading or bankrupt companies are sealed and unavailable for public view.
All records or minutes from meetings that I, or my Vice-President, attended regarding public energy policy are sealed and unavailable for public review.
Please consider my experience when voting in 2004.

31. Hey, folks! This is insulting to miserable failures everywhere
to tie them onto the same sinking boat with him.

He is the POSTER BOY for miserable failures. Look it up in the dictionary and his picture will be there.

He begs for new and improved and more far-reaching terms to redefine "miserable failure."

"Miserable failure" doesn't even BEGIN to describe this worthless pile.

But I'll say one thing for him - he certainly is consistent. Look at his record before December 2000. Look at his record in the private sector. Look at his record before that. All you see is botch-job after botch-job after botch-job, with his dad's wealthy and well-connected cronies to bail him out every single time. And they're still at it - witness the ever-larger stash of campaign contributions he's racked up. Too bad none of them sits on the UN Security Council. His track record for being bailed out by his rich buddies has apparently run into a dead end there.

He's gonna wind up making Herbert Hoover look good.

32. He accomplished all of his goals
He has bankrupted the middle and lower class, and they are now dependant on him out of fear. People are so desperate for work that they will take any $6/hr job that comes along, and are in no position to try and negotiate any benifits.

He has seen to it that war is ever present and on the minds of voters. For, when war is your only foreign policy, then you don't need any legitimate foreign policy. He has enacted a first-strike policy that allows him to go to war with anyone he wants, as long as he lies enough beforehand. And besides, when your foreign policy is perpetual war, you don't need domestic policy or diplomacy. Bush has neither.

He has made sure that his criminal pals will be safe with their stolen money. He saw to it that his buddy Ken Lay will never go to prison. He has also passed a massive tax cut for the rich every year while in office.

He allowed a terrorist attack to happen. This introduced a climate of fear (in which Republicans thrive) and provided him with the ultimate scapegoat. In addition, it paved the way for him to pass facist, unconstitutional laws that give him and Ashcroft Gestapo powers.

Is Bush a failure? By all means, no. Certainly not. He accomplished all of his goals.

Should he be impeached and arrested? Yes.

37. There is a 7 step program for addicted Failures.
As a former failure I have to tell ya the program is worth its weight in Gold.

Its really hard to go thru life as a failure, just look around, they everywhere. The obvious kine are in the homeless shelters but the closet failures are the hardest to detect.

Many go on to be Peters, you know, those that get promoted to a level of incompetence

There is a new book coming out How a Failure got to the White House.

Since Bush 2, many Universities are offering courses reflecting the times: Failures 101, Cures for Failures 395, and even, educing Failurism 764

Come, we go nuts

46. Well, I mostly agree.....but???
On jobs I wonder if bush has had much do do with the flight of manufacturing jobs to overseas countries. I think this trend started before Clinton and the notion of "free trade". We went shoping for cheap goods in foriegn countries mainly because that is where the cheap labor is. As long as we want a life style based on abundance of everything and want it as cheap as posible then we can only blame ourselves for much of the job loss. Kuchinch is the only one who seems to articulate this issue.

Our inability to compete with India, China, Indonesia and other countries that have wages one tenth or less than ours, have skilled workers, have little or no workplace regulations or environmental restrictions, means that the hemoraging of jobs away will likely continue regardless of anything bush does or doesn't do. The truth is "free trade" is destroying the working class here. It benifits only the multi-national corporations in the near term and agribusiness and the arms industry (our only significant exports).

The truth is there is no free lunch. Bob

47. one quibble
"They said he was a "uniter, not a divider." We know that to be a bald-faced lie. "

I beg to differ. He has united the EU against the US.

He has united the secular and religious Islamic world against the US.

Now if he would just unite the Greens and the Democrats against him.

48. George W. Bush is NOT Herbert Hoover
While Hoover's conservatism prevented him from recognizing the severity of the Great Depression and acting forcefully to create jobs and pump the economy, as President Roosevelt did, Hoover was a great humanitarian and a truly compassionate man that would serve this country best outside the White House.

Bush is a selfish, spoiled rich kid, with not feelings or empathy towards anyone outside of himself.

49. Bush has been one of the most successful presidents ever.
It just depends on how you define "we".

If you're like most Americans, when you say "we", you're referring to all your fellow Americans.

But if you're a Bush donor, you very likely define "we" as either:

1) the very wealthy
2) corporatists
3) war profiteers

I would include Christian Fundamentalists, but they're just as unemployed as anyone else. They just don't realize they're being fucked much more than they're being kissed. Yet.
