Pentagon Wants Women In Combat (More cannon fodder)
Pentagon Wants Women In Combat

Dave Eberhart, NewsMax.com
Friday, Dec. 10, 2004

Elaine Donnelly: "yet more women will die – or be captured and possibly raped."

The Pentagon is implementing new military plans that will make the concept of women in combat a reality.

The Center for Military Readiness warned this week that the Pentagon is flouting policies mandated by Congress in an effort to implement politically correct policies that increase the number of uniformed women put into harm’s way.

Others suggest the Pentagon tinkering with rules forbidding women in combat is a clear effort to increase boots on the ground as the troop-strapped DoD faces manpower shortages in Iraq and elsewhere around the globe.

Seven female U.S. soldiers have thus far been killed in Iraq and many more have been wounded. The question is, why? Aren't women supposed to be kept out of units that may see combat?

1. Good
Those who signed up for this war can share the injustice equally with men. Plus this might drive women away from the GOP.

3. Not Very Fair of You
Most of those you target didn't sign up for this war, they were already serving when it was shoved in their faces, and yes there are those in uniform who have also been drinking the kool-aid.

But, there are some who don't believe in the BS about defending America or bringing democarcy to the Iraqi people, it's too bad that
they can't speak out.

As for driving women away from the GOP, I kind of doubt it, but it's a nice dream.

5. Maybe you missed the thread in GD about a poster joining the Army
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 12:54 PM by wuushew
The discredited lies about the reason for going to war have been public for over a year. If you join the military TODAY you are directly or indirectly aiding the cause of American imperialism. That is a sick pursuit that outweighs and faux notion of personal betterment or patriotism.

If you want to protect America become a first responder. Hell I have more respect for criminals that steal to feed themselves than those who give into the requirement to kill for Uncle Sam to alleviate their poverty.

2. Not that I think women in combat is wrong/right
But before this is considered, how about considering putting all the chicken-hawks into combat first! Get every able-bodied MAN who voted for Bush suited up and ready to go. That includes Bush & Co.

4. GOOD!
Women should do the same jobs as men, for the same pay. I want to see women doctors, lawyers, and yes, front-line soldiers.

6. RW site quoting RW pressure group
The Center for Military Readiness stridently
opposes any women in the military.
The Right doesn't like the prospect
of "tough as nails" women.

Anything the CMR says should be viewed
to putting women "in their place" and
out of the way of "our boys".

9. It was in Newsmax. Of course.
Newsmax is a right wing rag but I thought the message should be shared.
I feel if women want to fight they should have that choice, I feel the same way about men.

7. I would agree with this in a heartbeat if women made as much as men do
for the same work than men do in the private sector. I served four years in the Army back in the late 70's. I had to serve four years because I signed up for a job that gave you a year of training in electronics. As soon as I finished my training and was sent to Ft. Bragg, NC, I was put on paper work duty and didn't touch a piece of electrical equipment until I was sent to Germany and then I still did paperwork. At least there I did get to do maintenance on microwave radios. Plus run the site PX. Plus run the movie theater ( before VCR's my god!). Plus order all the site supplies. Plus make all the runs to Mannheim for parts. Plus do the mail runs. Plus keep all the books for everything! I did refuse to get my section chief coffee. Twit that he was.

Damn! I was too busy to fight anybody. ;) But, I knew that I had to learn to shoot an M16 for some reason. I kept trying to put the clip in upside down. God, I feel for those National Guard and Reserve people.

Side note: I was in Germany when the Ayatollah (sp) took over Iran and the hostages were taken. I KNEW THEN about the stop-loss program and I was so worried they were going to keep me in when I was due out in a few months. I'm not knocking the troops that are fighting some of these ridiculous call ups of 50 to 60 year old ex-troops, but I just remember knowing about the rule that if we go to war while you are enlisted and on active duty, they had the right to keep you in. Then again, I always thought we would only fight for a reasonably just cause.

Who knew?

10. i hope it happens.
because when i was in the Corps, it was abundantly clear to me that the real path to leadership opportunities lies along the road with combat, and no other. this is sad in a way, but also makes sense: you want your generals to have real experience in the field.

if they allow women into combat units, more women will have a chance to rise up the ranks, and hopefully inject some sense into our military. (although karpinski doesn't give me hope.)

and to those who worry about women getting raped- that's more of a problem with our own troops than the enemy. jessica lynch was treated like a guest, and our own Air Force and Naval Academies just can't seem to 'study' the issue enough to decide upon action...sad.

12. Well if you want to support female equality...
you have to support it in all of its ventures.

If the women can perform as well as men then I dont see why not.
