Did Democrats steal votes from Nixon? |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 01:46 PM by msgadget
I'm pretty new here so please pardon me if this has been rehashed in the past.
Twice this week I've heard reference to poor Nixon suffering at the hands of the Democrats. First, Novak mentioned it on Crossfire to rebut a statement Sharpton made regarding the 2004 presidential race. And, today a caller to C-Span's guest, Tavis Smiley, referred to the 'padded votes' the Democrats never refer to regarding Kennedy's win.
Why hasn't any pundit, talking head, media representative or whatever of the left stomped this story intot he dirt? And, is it me or is Nixon a name that was studiously avoided by the other side during the first term?
Everything I've read debunks this. I'd appreciate any links, references or long-winded opinions you have regarding this matter.
Thanks.

1. I do not know for sure, however |
|
even if Nixon has won the disputed state he would have lost the election.

2. evidence is that any votes Mayor Daley got for JFK |
|
illegally in Chicago were evened out by votes that padded for Nixon in downstate Illinois. In other words corruption on both sides.

I thought it was something like this. I think I remember reading that this was the first time the Republicans planned to rig the vote but they were outmaneuvered. Can't find my sources to back it up though.

3. That's been widely alleged |
|
- in Chicago. I've also heard stories that the repubs had a different part of IL rigged so it always seemed to come out even, imo.

4. Doris Kearns Goodwin referred to this in 2000 |
|
She said the reason Nixon didn't contest apparent vote padding by Democrats in Cook County (Illinois) in 1960 was that the Republicans had participated in equally fraudulent activities in downstate Illinois that would likewise have been uncovered. I don't have a reference other than having heard her say this on television.

5. Because we stole the 1960 election! |
|
Daly fixed Chicago. Nixon couldn't complain because it was obvious that he fixed California. He became a selfless victim rather than incriminate himself by incriminating Kennedy. End of story.

8. Thanks. Interesting that this story is now re-surfacing, isn't it? |
|
IOW, Democrats should shut up about the voting irregularities of 2000 and 2004 because of THIS?

They haven't yet denied any of the stories, not even to say (as I expected) the party had no part in anything untoward though we cannot vouch for our enthusiastic supporters. That'd be better than, 'so, Nixon got robbed and he let it go.'

7. I don't think there were any votes "stolen". |
|
There were from what I understand a lot of votes that were created. No-one realized that there were that many dead people that still loved to vote. Some even voted multiple times. I think it was happening on both sides any many locations.
