Pencil sharpeners banned after attack
And rather than expelling the kid and/or filing criminal charges the schools solution is banning pencil sharpeners.

WTF is wrong with this picture?

"PENCIL sharpeners have been banned from a primary school after a pupil dismantled one and used the blade to slash another child's neck.

The victim was attacked in the playground at Waterloo Primary School in Ashton under Lyne.

He was taken to Tameside Hospital where he had butterfly stitches placed on the wound.

The attacker was suspended for two days and is now back in school.

Police, who were notified two days later, have spoken to the young attacker and his parents.

Headteacher David Willis has now banned all pencil sharpeners.

But the decision to allow the boy to return to school has angered parents. Some have signed a petition calling on the school to permanently expel the youngster.

One parent, who did not wish to be named, said: "Are our children safe when we send them through those gates every morning? The lad purposely took the blade out of the sharpener. In my eyes that is a pre-meditated attack".

1. Many ordinary things can be used as weapons, pencils included.

The boy is the problem that needs correcting, not the pencil sharpener.

3. Exactly! Disturbing
that the attacker was let back in after only a two days suspension. This is one of those cases that I can only shake my head in disappointment.

2. Geesh! Blame an article that's been used safely for decades
instead of getting the little SOB who dismantled it and misused it into therapy AT ONCE. This is the type of "thinking" that we're seeing in schools, and it tells me there's no hope for countering the dumbing down process until we clean house pretty thoroughly. It's starting at the top.

Something is seriously wrong with this kid, and possibly with the family he comes from. Child protective services should have been called in to do an evaluation of the family, and the kid belongs in therapy, not grammar school.

Inclusion, my ass. This kid is dangerous, and will probably figure out how to turn some other common item into a weapon.

4. They need to ban pencil-necked administrators
that come up with these "solutions".

6. I've been using mechanical pencils since grammar school...

so I have had no reason to carry a deadly bladed pencil sharpener.

But be careful, you could still take out an eye with these metal sheathed pencils.

That evil kid performed a sort of MacGyverism. But MacGyver would not have approved of such a violent act unless it was in self-defense.

7. Pencil sharpeners don't kill - little boys do
Rarely is the question axed, is our children safer since Ashcroft?

Haha - after the gummint gives everybody the standard mental evaluation we'll all be using crayons.
