Air America Secures $13 Million
Edited on Sat Dec-11-04 01:17 AM by ailsagirl
A GREAT SIGN!!!!
========================

Air America Secures $13 Million

Air America Radio (AAR) today announced new long-term contract extensions for its highly rated radio personalities Al Franken and Randi Rhodes, and new affiliate clearances in a number of top markets across the country. The network is now heard in 11 of the top 20 radio markets.

The network also announced that $13 million in new investment had been completed.

AAR was launched March 31, 2004 in five markets, and in just eight months has expanded to 40 stations nationwide, as well as both SIRIUS and XM, the national satellite radio services. This represents unprecedented growth in modern network radio.

3. It seems that NewsMax's predictions about our imminent..
demise - about six or seven months ago were a bit premature!

Makes me so glad. Randi's committed ... Al is ... really like Liz and Rachel on Unfiltered.

Glad they have their investment money.

I think that their growth rate has been phenomenal. If you take a step back, they certainly have become more successful more quickly than any rightwinger lineup.

I hope that Mike Malloy is locked in. I let them know that I'm listening - and I don't expect any backing down.

Washington (AP) - The liberal radio network Air America is about to land on the airwaves in Washington.

The Washington Post reports an agreement has been made with WRC-AM to broadcast the programming. WRC or 1260 am plans to drop its syndicated sports talk in favor of the network which just recently re-signed its star personality Al Franken to a multiyear contract.

People familiar with the deal say it gives WRC's owner, Clear Channel Communications, a "blue state" station to balance its "red state" programs on WTNT 570, which includes conservative hosts G. Gordon Liddy and Laura Ingraham.

Air America will debut in Washington on January 20th, with Franken broadcasting from President Bush's second inauguration.

It's currently on in 40 cities, including New York, Boston and Philadelphia.

===============================
Also, there's one of those online voting polls (from the Chicago Tribune):

Have you listened to Air America?

YES 64.3% (5060)
No 35.7% (2808)

12. I second that. We were one of their first markets, too.
Now I feel I'm on the outside looking in. It really sucks. Not as bad as four-more-years-of-that-guy sucks, but close.

7. Please, no more Clear Channel stations!!!
Buy up the over 200 FM stations in the South and West and be secure!

Putting shows on Clear Channel stations leaves AAR vulnerable....

14. Seriously people, AAR needs our continued support...
...please go to their website and purchase a t-shirt or a thong for your significant other. What voice would we have without it? NPR? Not quite enough in my opinion.

15. I am trying, trying, trying to save money to buy Sirius
Living in these remote places, no reception except through cable or satellite. I've been wanting satellite radio ever since it became available, and finally the price is going down.

Now, if only RadioShack will have one of their Christmas specials and cut the price a bit, plus no interest for a year, it would make me a very happy camper to be able to listen to AAR.

Listening through the computer speakers just doesn't sound right if I'm sitting in the other room :shrug:

16. Congrats AAR
We've got to keep building our media networks if we're going to be able to compete with the right-wing noise machine. This is a great sign.

17. i am so grateful for air America. But i do agree that
we should work toward our own network. Here in Seattle, on AA in the morning, the local news is delivered by some gal named Tammy somebody who also happens to have a show on KKKVI, the local hate radio station. Her voice just drips with sarcasm, and if you listen closely, you get the full on right wing agenda (Dino Rossi is referred to as Governor Elect, as if the election was over). Later in the day, the national news is given by CNN, which can be just as bad.
