My post in the New York TImes
Edited on Sat Dec-11-04 04:24 AM by jmatthan
I posted this in the Transiion in Iraq Forum of the New York Times a few minutes ago:

Who wanted the Iraq War?

Sitting in the Arctic 5000 km, safely away from American shores and all its corruption and criminal administration, I often muse...

It is popular to portray Bush and his cohorts as wanting the Iraq War right from 1998 and the PNAC document.

There were none more interested in pushing for the Iraq War as the American Mainstream Media (MSM) with the New York Times in the lead. They egged on the situation by false reporting by such journalists as Judith Miller and aided by convicted criminals as Ahmed Chalabi. The American MSM wanted war to sell more newspapers.

But it is strange they do not want an investigation into the fraud in the American election, which could also sell newspapers!! The way the New York Times has studiously avoided attending and covering issues related to the Conyers hearings (which even I watched thanks to the Internet and CSpan), or covering any of the truly heart rending 100000 complaints regarding irregularities of the recent American Presidential election, makes one wonder. Did any New York Times journalist look at the scathing report by the European Observers about the irregularities in the American election.

On the other hand, with not a single complaint in their hands the American MSM ran helter skelter to spotlight the Ukrainian election fraud!!

Of course, Scott Peterson, a white guy who murdered his wife and unborn child must get precedence over such mundane matters as a fraudulent American election and the tragedy of the crushing death of American democracy, if ever such a thing existed.

Maybe there is a common link in arriving at such horrendous editorial decisions by the New York Times?

Think!!!

1. Can you tell us where to read the

"scathing report by the European Observers about the irregularities in the American election"? If it's been mentioned here, I've missed seeing it.

Thanks!

And glad for it.

Infinitely better than being a corrupt and senseless American who can only attack the messenger rather than the message!!

Fortunately in my hermit existence I do not have to listen to your Gods of misinformation - Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill O'Rielly. I can listen to Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy, Mike Webb, Bernie Ward, Tony Trupiano, Guy James, Thom Hartmann. I could see the CSpan live coverage of the Conyers hearing. I could see the exit polls and see how they were conveniently of no consequence in the US election but see how the US wanted to shout from the rooftops of the importance of exit polls in the Ukrainian election.

I think I rather like this form of hermit crab existence defined by you!!

Wonderful summary, but I think there is a world of difference in understanding what is civilisation - which your lack of civility shows you have no understanding of!

If you are so courageous and not a bore like me, maybe you will volunteer to go and sort out the problem in Iraq. As far as I have seen cowards will not venture very far from home base in their cause!!

But I am sure you do support the Stop Loss policy, sending grandparents and amputees to fight the war in Iraq and will probably be the first to dodge the draft like your VP Dick Chenney (5 deferments?)!!

2. Well done, Jacob

Amazingly, you know EXACTLY who was behind the Iraq invasion and when they started beating the drums for that war.

If you were to walk down the streets of America and ask 100 Americans if they knew who PNAC was or if they knew any neocons, 99 people would most likely say "no."

How to educate our country with no media? It's quite a quandry, but I have hope since you know so much in Finland.

Great, great letter, Jacob! Thanks for doing it!
