Over the past few days, much has been made of Specialist Thomas Wilson's challenge to Secretary Donald Rumsfeld on the issue of armor for military Humvees. But one scandalous story that has broken on the issue deserves more attention, and Congress must investigate.


According to reports, Robert Mecredy, an executive with Armor Holdings, Inc. (the military's sole supplier of protective plates for Humvees), told the US Army a month ago that his company could increase production of armor by as much as 22 percent, but has yet to receive an order from the Pentagon. AM General, the company that actually manufactures the plates, concurred. Additonally, the Associated Press reported that although the military estimates it needs almost 22,000 armored Humvees in the warzone, it is still nearly 7000 short on that estimate -- nearly two years after the war began!


Congress has appropriated billions of dollars to help protect our men and women courageously fighting overseas -- so where is it being spent, if not on proper armor?


Congress must immediately investigate the situation with Armor Holdings and the Pentagon, determine who is responsible for the failure to increase production, and hold all proper people accountable. YOU can help bring the pressure needed to start an investigation, by immediately going to Operation Truth's legislative action center, and sending a letter to your Members of Congress. But don't stop there! Tell as many of your friends and family as you can to do the same.


It's time for our elected officials in Washington to make "Support Our Troops" more than just a catchphrase. Call on them to investigate the Pentagon's failure right now.
