Why has the media forgotten Linda Chavez's "nanny" problems in 2001???
Everything I've read about Kerik's withdrawal in my local paper, The Houston Chronicle, and on the on-lines like CNN and MSNBC, and on TV news mentions the Clinton nominees with nanny problems, i.e., Zoe Baird and Kimba Wood. Is there a collective unconscious regarding Linda Chavez, who was Bush's original nominee for Labor Secretary in January 2001? Why is this not mentioned at all???

http://archives.cnn.com/2001/ALLPOLITICS/stories/01/09/bush.wrap/

Chavez withdrew her name from consideration after questions arose over an illegal immigrant who stayed with her and provided household help in the early 1990s. Chavez blamed what she said were the "search-and-destroy" politics of Washington.

"Unfortunately, because of the way the stories have played over the last few days, I have decided that I am becoming a distraction, and therefore I have asked President Bush to withdraw my name for secretary of labor," said Chavez, who made the announcement at Bush transition headquarters in Washington.

Her withdrawal followed media scrutiny of her work relationship with Guatemalan immigrant Marta Mercado, to whom Chavez gave money and a room in her house. Although Chavez denied Mercado was paid for providing household help, it is against the law in the United States to house an illegal immigrant.

"My, what a difference a week makes," Chavez began as she publicly removed herself from consideration for the labor post just seven days after her January 2 nomination.

She later said no one called to push her to make her decision.

"But I've also been around this town long enough to know that when nobody is calling you and saying, 'Hang in there,' that isn't a great signal either," Chavez said.

2. I believe Fox actually had her on earlier talking @ it.
Called her a news consultant or some such - I didn't linger long enough to listen.

3. It makes me wonder why they don't tough it out and chance the
confirmation hearings. I'm not being sarcastic. Our prez is for guest workers and is working with Fox so even more have access to our freedoms. It's duplicitous to advance a policy that's too shameful to defend and sooner or later a nominee an illegal employee is either going to challenge this unashamedly alone or with the weight of the office behind them.

5. Write the son's of bitches.
The reason they only remember Clinton's appointments is because there was a witchhunt taking place so there is plenty of newsprint archived on the subject.

Bastards.
