http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-sex_marriage_in_Canada

Same-sex marriage is widely anticipated to be legalized across Canada by federal legislation in 2005. At present, same-sex marriages are legal in six provinces (including the three most populous) and one territory; in total, about 85% of Canadians (roughly 27.4 million (http://www.statcan.ca/english/Pgdb/demo02c.htm)) live in provinces and territories where same-sex marriages are allowed. The right to same-sex common-law marriage has existed nationwide since 1999.

5. Hmm..
The Court stated that such a ruling is not necessary because the federal government had accepted the rulings of provincial courts to the effect that the change was required. The Court also ruled that religious institutions could not be required to perform same-sex marriages.

Canada "gets it" and, yet, America still doesn't understand. If you don't agree with something, fine, then agree not to perform the marriage but don't let the government step in and mandate a position either way that takes rights away from American citizens.

I love Canada for this, and the countless other things, that have proven they are ten times more civilized then the Amerikkan Taliban!

6. I love my country!
Anyone hear what's going on with the lesbian couple who married in Canada are suing the Irish government to have their marriage recognized?

This could force to EU to recognize gay marriages as legal across the board.

Freedom is on the march!

11. I love it, too....
That's why I'm here w/ my wife instead of the US where I was born, raised, and lived until 2001.

It just "feels" right to live here; I really love this country. And i don't hate the US; I'm still a citizen and will be until I die, but I just don't know it, or alot of it's people, anymore.

And that depresses me....

14. Same here...
Moved to Canada in 1990; two weeks after I got here, the whole Kuwait/Iraq mess #1 blew up.

America now feels strange and slightly alien when I go back to visit--like an old friend who's gone hopelessly insane.

16. It's weird....
I live in Edmonton, and Alberta is probably the most "conservative" province in Canada. But the Tories here would probably be no more then Center-Right in the US; well, except for Ted Byfield and his little cult.....

But even the brand of conservativisim is a kinder, gentler brand then in the US now...

10. Nah, but I'm sure he thought it.
Actually, they already did say something similar several times - both he and Robertson. I'm just embellishing a bit.

9. Is anyone starting to think that many countries are more
democratic than the US? I mean, look at Canada! What a move...man I hope this really gets under the skin of these stupid RR freepers! And then if the EU does it? Wow! Very cool.

Then we look at the "democratic" US and it is going back to the friggin' dark ages.

Go Canada!

12. This is why Farwell should never be let on TV
He said 9/11 happened because of feminists, abortion, and gays.

But if God is going to strike any county, it would be Canada, UK, or dozens of other countries more liberal than the US.

17. let's say Canada fully legalizes gay marriage . . .
what happens when a gay Canadian couple comes to the US? . . . suppose, for example, one of them got a great job offer somewhere in the US where gay marriage is outlawed . . . and suppose they relocated here, but maintained their Canadian citizenship . . . what would their status be? . . .

say that America will turn out like Canada if the "secular progressives" win. Sounds like a good reason to support the progressive movement to me!
