Why all the "substitute electors"? |
|
It would seem to me that if you were picked to be one of only a scant few in your WHOLE STATE, how on earth could you "have something better to do" on the ONE and ONLY day you are called upon to do soomething that is so prestigious?
I guess I just don't get it

1. It did seem a little odd. Wish I had an answer. Could be some folks |
|
suspect they will get caught up in a legal battle and don't want their holidays ruined...or could be that some folks just had family or personal problems.
I'd like to think it's the former...that some electors are thinking "the jig" is up. Or, it could be something I haven't thought of..

2. I think it's just a way to |
|
spread the honor around a little bit more.

3. In 2000 in Iowa the weather prevented one elector |
|
from getting to Des Moines to vote (an ice storm). But unless something extraordinary happens, you'd think a person would want the honor.
