Bush "has long been leery" of Ghoul-iani
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 04:34 PM by wicket
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/13/national/13relations.html?ei=5006&en=c2a9db33776e61d5&ex=1103518800&partner=ALTAVISTA1&pagewanted=print&position=

Mr. Giuliani added that he did not think the situation would hurt his relationship with President Bush or the White House. "It doesn't and shouldn't affect my feelings toward them, and I don't think it will affect their feelings toward me," he said. "We're friends."

The view at the White House is somewhat different. Although people close to the president say he likes and respects Mr. Giuliani, they say the president has long been leery of him as a man who could not be counted on for the loyalty demanded by Mr. Bush. And while the breakdown of Mr. Kerik's nomination is not lethal to Mr. Giuliani's relationship with the White House, the friends and officials say, it will hardly burnish his credentials with the president.

4. What makes you say that?
Rudy oozes with "loyal to Rudy only"-ness.

Anything he's shown to Bush has been purely "I can use you so that I can go national".

3. This isn't surprising
Guiliani's handling of 9/11 was widely praised (rightly or wrongly), while President Bush's handling of it left a lot to be desired. Of course President Bush resented that situation (look at how he both needs and resents Karl Rove), and has probably been nourishing a bit of a grudge against Guiliani since then.

9. Absolutely. Guiliani upstaged the Emperor. Big No No in Bushland
Guiliani, and I say this as someone who can't stand him, showed real physical courage and leadership that day. That footage of him and his aides running through the street as the tower collapsed in the background was chilling.

Let's face it Bush's big public moment on 9/11 was reading My Pet Goat. Bush may use Guiliani like he did at the convention but I don't think he's ever forgiven him.

Bush will rub Bernie in Rudy's face.

14. The Kerik problem leads to Rudy imo
And Rudy has many of his own problems, his messy personal life and many of the 9/11 families want answers from him especially regarding the radios the police and fire dept had that should have been replaced years before but Rudy didn't want to pay the bill.

17. Hmm. They're probably trying to figure out how to move ALL the blame
for Kerik on Giuliani. But they clearly deserve a lot of it. After all, it was they who sent Kerik into Baghdad to dole out Coalition bucks to croneys in the Natl Security sector of the world economy.

21. They are using each other
The Evangelicals don't trust Rudy at all because he openly cheats on his wife and lives with gays. Rudy needs Bush to give him some credibility with them. And Bush needs Rudy because Rudy is "America's Mayor" and the damn "security moms" trust him.
