Poll question: Is George W. Bush evil?
Edited on Mon Dec-13-04 11:44 PM by Lone_Wolf_Moderate
This is a serious question. I know most of us at DU disagree with his policies, but personally, is he evil? I would say no. I disagree with his policies, and I think they're bad for America, but I don't have anything against him personally, and I don't think he's evil. What do you think?

8. If he's allowing himself to be used as a puppet
then there is something inside him that is evil. Something that doesn't stop and consider the consequences of his actions. Someone who doesn't question if something is wrong.

There are no excuses for bush, he's either evil, or he's evil for allowing himself to be used for evil.

Seriously, I never believed in an anti-christ, or an evil human. Not even Ted Bundy changed my mind about the impossibility of a human being infused with evil.

The GW Bush enigma is very deceptive and it illuminates evil.
It has emerged from...hmm, a pit of something very horrible, that's all my senses can tell me at this moment.

I'm only kind-of kidding, but not really.

adj. e·vil·er, e·vil·est

1. Morally bad or wrong; wicked: an evil tyrant.
2. Causing ruin, injury, or pain; harmful: the evil effects of a poor diet.
3. Characterized by or indicating future misfortune; ominous: evil omens.
4. Bad or blameworthy by report; infamous: an evil reputation.
5. Characterized by anger or spite; malicious: an evil temper.

1) Arguable, but I say yes.
2) Yep.
3) Yep.
4) Duh.
5) :eyes:

Using the D&D definition of evil, you get something like "self-involved to the point that he would be willing to hurt others to attain his goals." That's Bush to a T.

17. I agree. * is a sociopath.
He doesn't have the ability to feel the pain of any living creature. He can laugh when someone is put to death and begs for their life. He can make jokes about WMD being hidden somewhere in his office when he has sent thousands to die for a lie. I believe he is not only capable of lying, cheating, stealing, harming others and not having an ounce of remorse, but much worse; being able to laugh about it as he does it.

I think that's as close to evil as you can get, even if someone else like Rove or Cheney, who appear to me, to be power and money hungry and creepily self-satisfied with their machinations behind the scenes, are truly making all the big decisions. All three of them take great joy in not only beating their opponents, but in totally humiliating and destroying them. They thrive off the suffering of others. It's taking over of the world by spoiled, stunted mental midgets who found out that faking religious fervor is an easy way to fool several million blinded by faith Americans. Evil knows what it's doing. After all, all it is is the absence of good.

33. Bush is just mentally/emotionally deranged...his PARTY
is evil. His vp and the other neocon suplicants around him, including the whacko Pat Robertsons/Falwells, are EVIL. It's not a matter of a single individual..it's the evil of their ideology.

Somewhere along the line, these asswipes got the idea implanted(Satan?) that what they are doing is a good thing..for those that know it's not a good thing, they figure: 'Who's going to stop them'? To stop them might require a bit of violence, if push came to shove. How many people want to engage in that kind of force/aggressiveness???

Pacifists are taken for granted and swept aside in this new political environment, unfortunately.

38. Evil is subjective. Here is how I define evil. Do you agree?
First, notice how Bush limits "evil" to people who wish US citizens harm.

I find evil to be a bit more encompassing:

* Killing another human is evil.
* Causing another human being intense suffering is evil. Examples include using avarice, greed, jealousy, and other forms of manipulation to wilfully hurt another person or that person's lifestyle.
* Having power over a group of people and committing actions that hurt their lives. Once again, greed and other selfish factors apply.
* Telling everybody how they all have to contribute, yet in return doing actions that have some people contributing less, or nothing at all. (topical example would be * giving huge tax cuts to the wealthy while telling us we all need to sacrifice.)

I would say there's a group of Americans who are just as evil as the people they are labelling 'evil'. For evil is more than flying an aeroplane into a building. It is also destroying peoples' livelihoods, sense of well being, and/or sense of self.

Even the Bible goes into the sin of greed and how greed and selfishness had led God to destroy entire cities.

I'm not so sure he was born evil. He's awfully human to be pure evil, with his poor speaking skills and all. Plus, his daughters seem to like him, so he must be pretty nice to them.

If Bush had never run for public office, was just the ex-frat guy down the street who worked as a businessman of some sort, he'd probably be an okay neighbor.

IIf you watch the doc. Blind Spot (Hitler's Secretary). You will hear about how sweet he was to his girlfriend and the staff. He treated people kindly according to her. That was part of the reason it was so hard for her to believe that he was such a monster. I'm not comparing the two. But it's just something to think about. A lot of despots can be nice to their family memebers and neighbors.

45. I believe in neither the Christian God or devil: however, I'm firmly
convinced of a power of evil (and of good) to which we connect in some sense. Scott Peck referred to evil as deceptive spiritual laziness ("People of the Lie"). While I agree that Bush is both stupid and a puppet, these do not negate his being evil. Personally, I would rate Bush's corruption as a higher level of evil than Gheney's greed-based genre, but that's hardly the most important point. Evil is by nature contagious and corrupting. Colin Powell may have been a good man once; John McCain certainly was. But the disease spreads through this administration to their followers as well; thus the lack of outrage at our murderous neglect of the Geneva convention (among thousands of this regime's abuses). Certainly part of this is the media, the propaganda, and religious pandering, but those are merely part of the worsening whole. Americans are be sucked into participation in a monstrosity, much as the Germans were; but in some ways even more inexplicably, as Hitler at least provided short term military and economic success. The American participation in Bush's evil to the detriment of their own self-interest, to me, is the most frightening aspect of the dilemma. To many, comparison's of Bush to Hitler and th Anti-Christ are far-fetched because of degree. Bush's butcher toll of 130 thousand (I don't know the Afghanistan figures) doesn't approach Hitler's 60 million (WWII casualties), but Bush has only begun. His total lack of any self-critical quality & belief in his personal destiny render him, and consequently, America vulnerable to any manner of future holocausts.

52. People of the Lie
Scott Peck in his book "People of the Lie" asserts that satanic evil exists in this world, and the way that we can recognize evil is when we see someone lying. I believe that Bush has to wear that shoe because it fits.
