Marine knew he wouldn't make it home.
My husband brought this article to my attention. His father was Special Forces and took three tours to Vietnam, but he was never deployed this long, especially back-to-back. Damn sickening.

Fallen Marine mourned
Lopez among 7 killed in ambush

By Fanny S. Chirinos Caller-Times
December 14, 2004

Timothy Flores recalled his little brother Marine Lance Cpl. Hilario Lopez, a 2002 graduate of Ingleside High School, as a practical joker who felt a camaraderie for his fellow Marines serving in Iraq. Lopez was killed Sunday in an ambush at a security point in Iraq.

Flores said his father woke him up in tearsover the weekend, saying someone had killed his "baby like a dog in the street."

Flores, 23, said his brother told him conditions were bad in Iraq.

"He said he felt his heart break for the Iraqi children and he had seen many of his friends die over there. He told me he thought he wouldn't make it back home the second time around."

1. Well this just proves my point
about the stupidity of * and how he started all this because he can't tell the difference between Saddam and Osama.

2. sad kick.
How many more of these stories do we have to hear before the right-wingers wake up? This president doesn't care about our soldiers when he cuts their benefits. He's using them as cannon fodder out in Iraq. It's not a permanent solution. Why can't Republicans see that if you want a lasting peace, diplomacy is the best solution. Otherwise, we're just raising our children to sacrifice them for a lifestyle that we can't sustain forever, regardless of what hard-headed, over-privileged white people think.

3. The stories are out there, but the corporate media whores
refuse to cover the bad news, with a few rare exceptions. GOPers want to believe that every day is a parade of newly found democratic patriotism in Iraq, not homelessness, disease brought on by the destruction of infrastructure, and death.
