This happens regularly, especially in Africa. It just happened to be picked up by media. A small group of locusts picks up and starts moving. In the mean time, every locust that the small group passes joins the parade. And before you know it there are millions of them looking for a snack. I use this phenomenon regularly in my college class I teach.

being given to it by the media. There is big biblical/religious propoganda push going in the media right now and this is part of it.

They've gone as far east as Israel & Syria, and as far west as the Canary Islands. Big year for the locusts.
