Randi taking Bill O'Rielly to task
Edited on Wed Dec-15-04 04:38 PM by eleny
Evidently, BO wrote a column or some such about the recent investment by Real Media mogul into AAR. So, BO calls the guy a shadow figure, someone BO never heard of and who is a sugar daddy who tells AAR what to broadcast.

Randi is setting things straight by noting that their individual contracts all state that the content is up to the radio personality. No one tells them what to say, Randi added, like Murdoch who controls content on his outlets. Funny when she said that guys like BO are so used to being told what they can't say they can't imagine AAR folks being free to choose their subject matter.

She also said that AAR is concentrating on placement in large markets. Limbaugh may be on 600 stations but many of them are small markets.

That's it so far.

isn't it fitting that:

KO - Keith Olbermann, Knock Out
RR - Randi Rhodes, Railroad train

BO - Bill O'Reilly... well, you know

6. O'Reilly's mission to shut down all liberal speech
He rails against the New York Times, Bill Moyers, academia, and Air America. His goal seems to be to shut down all speech that differs from it's own. So much for free expression.
I happened to click on Fox for 60 seconds yesterday and he was complaining about a recent court decision that ruled a woman's testimony against a teenage, male friend of her daughter would not be admitted into testimony against the friend because the boy had an expectation of privacy. Like a complete idiot, O'Reilly decided this somehow banned parents from listening in on their children's phone conversations, when that was not even remotely close to the finding.

Buy a gift item from the Air America Radio store for family & friends...Every little bit does help, makes AAR stronger and shows our support for progressive liberal radio. :bounce:

And they offer some interesting gifts.

10. Thanks for posting this.
I figured that bastard would say something about this ruling, but I absolutely cannot stand to watch him so I couldn't find out first hand. You are, of course, right on the mark. Parents can eaves drop all they want...it's just that nothing they hear is admissible in a court of law in the state of Washington. Since most parents won't be intending to take their kids to court, the law doesn't raise much of an obstacle against a fair amount of parental oversight. :) (I'm trying to be polite about the snoopery, you see)

The state of Washington takes privacy a little more seriously than the federal government does.

Oh and as a sidelight...you'd think Bill would have some envy for Washington's phone privacy laws in light of his recent legal difficulties.

the Republican party that is now totally controlled by its lunatic wing and the religious right.

They've stolen the 2000, the 2002 and the 2004 elections and they now run everything. And their attitude toward us is, "shut the fuck up or get out of this country."

How long do you think it's going to before it becomes, "shut the fuck up or we'll kill you?"

8. That tactic is right out of the right-wing nut job handbook
Rush, Hannity and BO (I love that) all do the same thing. Focus on one small event, make up a story, then sell it until it becomes water cooler folklore.
