Huge flaw in "Christmas Under Seige" argument
the term "Happy Holidays" is not necessarily agnostic; even from a purely Christian perspective, it is merely inclusive of Christmas AND New Years.

So even within the context of their own argument, they are wrong.

Happy Holidays to all!

1. And a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you!
Ooops...I think I just pointed out the flaw in your reasoning. But I like the suggestion!

2. I always thought that
"Happy Holidays" was meant to include the holidays in the "holiday season", like Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. There are Christmas carols that are quite old, which say "Happy Holidays". I'm sure they written before the godless liberals tried to take all mention of God out of our lives and turn the US into a commie, godless, homosexual country. (sarcasm)

17. A Bing Crosby Tune, for one...
HAPPY HOLIDAY / THE HOLIDAY SEASON (Medley)
From The film "Holiday Inn" (1942)
(Music & Lyrics for "Happy Holiday" by Irving Berlin / Music & Lyrics for "The Holiday Season" by Kay Thompson)

Recorded by:
Bing Crosby & Martha Mears - 1942
Andy Williams - 1953
The Manhattan Transfer - 1992

Happy Holiday
Happy Holiday
While the merry bells keep ringing
May your every wish come true

Happy Holiday
Happy Holiday
May the calendar keep bringing
Happy Holidays to you

It's the holiday season
And Santa Claus is coming back
The Christmas snow is white on the ground
When old Santa gets into town
He'll be coming down the chimney, down
Coming down the chimney, down

It's the holiday season
And Santa Claus has got a toy
For every good girl and good little boy
He's a great big bundle of joy
He'll be coming down the chimney, down
Coming down the chimney, down

He'll have a big fat pack upon his back
And lots of goodies for you and me
So leave a peppermint stick for old St. Nick
Hanging on the Christmas tree

It's the holiday season
With the whoop-de-do and hickory dock
And don't forget to hang up your sock
'Cause just exactly at 12 o'clock
He'll be coming down the chimney
Coming down the chimney
Coming down the chimney, down!

Happy Holiday
Happy Holiday
While the merry bells keep bringing
Happy Holidays to you

Happy Holiday
Happy Holiday
May the calendar keep bringing
Happy Holidays to you
To you
Happy Holiday
Happy Holiday
Happy Holiday.......FADE

5. Actually, Christmas was the Celebration of the god Mithra
http://www.mitraz.com /

Mithra was born on December 25th, called "Birthday of the Unconquered Sun," which was finally taken over by Christians in the 4th century A.D. as the birthday of Christ. Some said Mithra sprang from an incestuous union between the sun god and his own mother, just as Jesus, who was God, was born of the Mother of God. Some claimed Mithra's mother was a mortal virgin. Others said Mithra had no mother, but was miraculously born of a female Rock, the petra genetrix, fertilized by the Heavenly Father's phallic lightning.

Mithra's birth was witnessed by shepherds and by Magi who brought gifts to his sacred birth-cave of the Rock. Mithra performed the usual assortment of miracles: raising the dead, healing the sick, making the blind see and the lame walk, casting out devils. As a Peter, son of the petra (rock), he carried the keys of the kingdom of heaven. His triumph and ascension to heaven were celebrated at the spring equinox (Easter), when the sun rises toward its apogee.

Before returning to heaven, Mithra celebrated a Last Supper with his twelve disciples, who represented the 12 signs of the zodiac. In memory of this, his worshippers partook of a sacramental meal of bread marked with a cross. This was one of seven Mithraic sacraments, the models for the Christians' 7 sacraments. It was called mizd, Latin missa, English mass. Mithra's image was buried in a rock tomb, the same sacred cave that represented his Mother's womb. He was withdrawn from it and said to live again.

Intersting to think about, considering it predated Christianity about 300 years...

You infidel! You have a lot of nerve to cite evil pagan sources in a resurgent Christian America. And as Bush is god's witness, you will be dragged off and stripped of your citizenship, infidel!

14. I find it interesting that Holy
has the same meaning even in Hindu culture...

Maybe it's an old old word. I have heard theory that our modern religions are all rooted in Dravidian culture anyway.

Certainly Christian, Mormon, Islam and Judaism are all rooted in the Pentatuch, which has man/beast hybrid figures that resemble Hindu (as well as Greek) characters.

20. Jesus gets grumpy when you forget his birthday
Can't you see Jesus pouting, arms folded, and kicking the wrapping paper around? Jesus can't stand it when he doesn't get at least a full month of birthday recognition from every person on Earth.
<sarcasm/>

Is that how Fundamentals think Jesus reacts? There is no way Jesus is that immature and pouty about his birthday party.

21. I often wonder how Jesus feels about the whole Christmas thing.
Do you think he's watching people running around like nuts at the malls, fighting over who gets the best bargains and thinking, "Hmm, that's a true Christian."

Or do you think he sees all of the Christmas lights up at that one neighbor's house that lights up the whole town and thinking, "Their money's much better spent on high electric bills than on feeding the poor."

I wonder if he's watching all of the fundies' Christmas parties. You know, the ones where everyone gets piss-eyed drunk and goes home to spend the rest of the night puking in their toilet. Does he think that's an excellent way to celebrate his birth?

24. I suspect He's at a homeless shelter every Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.
He truly preferred those people over the hypocrites.

But for some reason, the book of Matthew seems to have been left out of a great many Bibles.

Must be the ones published by Thomas J. Nelson, the leading Bible publisher as well as the publishing home of Michael Savage Weiner.

22. The people bitching about it are all HERETICS!!!
There used to be ONE church, the Catholic church. All of those lousey people boo-hooing about not observing christmas are happily ignoring the celebration of the Advent. They are ignoring the saints days, the feast days and most importantly the fast days.

Governments used to enforce Christmas as well as other catholic rules then some wise ass named Martin Luther decided him and his buddies got to worship however they wanted.

So they started a series of wars that is still killing people. That was 500 years ago. And THAT'S why Americans should keep their noses out of their neighbors religious practices.

25. Why aren't they celebrating the Feast of the Epiphany*, anyway?
I'll happily take another week and a half off of work!

*From whence we get the celebrated "Twelve Days of Christmas," no, they don't start on December 13--but I bet very few fundies are aware of that.

23. I can't stomach Fox News
I'm curious, in what way do they claim we are ruining Christmas?

I'm guessing it's that we don't want nativity scenes on the courthouse lawn? Like I said in my post yesterday, they need to take responsibility for their own religion and stop relying on the government to promote it for them.

If store owners want their cashiers to say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" to avoid offending someone who might not be a Christian, that's free enterprise and they have every right.

29. Agreed. The first time I heard about it, I was incredulous.
But the thing is making the e-mail rounds and has hit the MSM.

I'm a Christian and I couldn't care less if someone wishes me a "Happy Solstice." It carries no more or less meaning for me than "Good morning;" it's just a way to be pleasant, for God's sake (I mean that, too).

Since when is it a crime to be polite? :eyes:
