DNC calls off DLC to stop attacking Dean
Edited on Fri Sep-05-03 04:40 PM by Woodstock
Saw this on the Dean for America blog:

Here's a VERY interesting little tidbit from the MSNBC coverage:

"(Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe) said he had directed the Democratic Leadership Council, a business-friendly group of Democrats who have compared Dean to losing Democratic candidates of the past, George McGovern and Walter Mondale, to not issue any more statements attacking Dean."

that Dean is the real thing and he will not be stopped.

6. that Dean is very big-business friendly.
Was it his defecit reduction at all costs talk, or his rejection of a more progressive tax structure? Maybe they looked into his record in VT.

Yes, the DLC shouldn't have been fooled by the anti-war attacks, and the anti-Dem attacks.

17. Are you so sure the DLC was fooled?
I really straddle the fence on this one.

7. Dems have got to notice:
Dean is getting people involved in Democratic politics. Dean is getting people out to meetings, onto the streets. Deanieboppers will be doing a lot of the canvassing come November 2004, not just until the Convention. At least they will if: (1) Dean is nominated, or (2) someone else is nominated who hasn't alienated Dean's supporters.

8. They have seen the Green handwriting on the wall
...and an even larger defection from the Democratic party this election cycle if they don't treat Dean and other progressives like real Democrats.

Just imagine Dean, with his momentum, losing the nomination while the DLC has been denouncing him!

Democratic National Committee chairman Terry McAuliffe said after the event that the Lieberman-Dean sparring was mild compared to the way George Bush had attacked Arizona Sen. John McCain when the two men were competing for the 2000 GOP nomination. Thursday night’s debate was not, McAuliffe said, an event where the rivals “ripped each other to shreds.” He predicted the intra-party fighting “is going to get rougher as we got toward Iowa and New Hampshire,” the first two Democratic contests next year. He said he had directed the Democratic Leadership Council, a business-friendly group of Democrats who have compared Dean to losing Democratic candidates of the past, George McGovern and Walter Mondale, to not issue any more statements attacking Dean.

10. The funny thing is
...they don't produce good leaders. They manufacture politicians who follow the economic agendas of the IMF and RNC. They are a leadership prevention committee, and that's why Dean is anathema to them.

11. If the DLC is so good with money
They should know by now, the more they attack Dean, the more money Dean supporters will give him. So it's sound fiscal sense to stop bashing him. :)

14. FYI
Dean was a DLC member. As he said, it's the leadership of the DLC that attacks him, not the rank-and-file membership.

13. Clinton praised Dean's health plan months ago...maybe the DLC is
wising up and will follow Clinton's lead.....they should shut up Lieberman.

PS...Back in 1996, Dean was one of a handful of govs who were invited to the White House by Clinton to get some advice after the election: the message was, "Don't go left anymore" (This was after healthcare, gays in the military and we lost a lot of seats and governerships)
