What a cute little display of Fascism
I went to my sons 3rd grade Holiday Concert tonight. I went expecting to hear the kids sing some holiday songs. HA! Not in G.W's America. This was the song selection for the show:

1.This is America
2.I love My Country
3.Star Spangled Banner
4.Wishing You Were Here(dedicated to the troops that are defending our freedom in Iraq)
5.American Tears
6.The Mighty United
7. The Lights of Freedom

These songs were interspersed with little speeches about the glory of being an American. One actually said "America is made up of Moms and Dads and Teachers and Soldiers. Soldiers who defend our freedom and liberty." There were at least 5 references to soldiers in the 35 minute concert. I have to say that my favorite part was The Mighty United section where they made the kids talk about how great and mighty America is as long as we are united. I swear all they needed was a giant George Bush banner for us to pray and pledge our allegiance to.
It's bad enough our poor country has gone from being the lovable underdogs to the big bully on the block, but to brainwash little kids into thinking that being the bully is "right" is pathetic. My oldest son is in 5th grade at the same school and this is the first time in 6 years that I have seen the school do anything like this. I'm looking forward to confronting the music teacher to see if she chose this little "program" or if it was chosen for her.

I don't fight it with my 8-year-old anymore. When she sings, 'I'm proud to be an American,' I just smile. I talk about Americans we can be proud of ... like Michael Moore. I'm sure her teacher appreciates that.

16. Which one?
I'm in Arvada ... by contrast my daughter's fifth grade 'holiday' program was so devoid of any meaning - for fear of offending anyone - that it was a waste.

Even the kids I talked to were fairly disgusted that they were singing a medley of 1950s doo-wop songs instead of anything related to snow, winter, Christmas, Hannukah ....

Thankfully we did not have to endure any super patriotism anthems.

That is pretty bad and if I were you I would complain to higher school authorities ... a 'holiday' program should relate to what is going on for the kids, not the political agenda of the music teacher.

Very chilling. Let us know how your conference with Music Teacher goes.

90. I would've stood up and shouted "Bush just killed thousands of children
just like you!"

The way to prevent propaganda is IMMEDIATELY AND LOUDLY!
Once that shit gets into tiny minds it is hard to get out.

Here is my related post for the day about undoing propaganda with what I call PROPER-GANDA-

I hope this makes sense to the many new DU-ers who are only just starting to try and understand why so many good people embrace terrible things and call it 'morality' and what to do about it.

Psychology is the most important tool for understanding how we got into this mess and why.

Left, Right, Center comprise a FALSE VOCABULARY TO CONFUSE THE ISSUE
OF KILLING PEOPLE FOR MONEY.

Some people get the scam and some don't and enable it creating a very confused American public
1) Those who kill people for money and hide the evidence
2) Those who don't and fight to expose the evidence

This polarity of awareness within the two main political parties alienates some who choose to sit between murder and justice and call this 'Centrism.' But denying justice is not moderation, it is STILL INJUSTICE.

"Because I don't trust the 'radical fringe' who want to either
1) throw all the Jews in the oven (right wing)
OR
2) throw none of the Jews in the oven." (left wing)

"Yes, all things in moderation. So the right answer is in the middle.See? Politics is all about...compromise.
-Compromising your values." (DLC/DNC)

The Tactic We Must Deal With Or Die:
Psy-ops culture war tactics of Orwellification-
'Weaponize the good, demonize the outraged liberals who protest this.'

This is the way the domestic culture war (psy-ops propaganda to intentionally stir people up and chill dissent) works:

Take something, like the US government, do terrible things with it.

Then, when liberals criticize the terrible things, claim they are criticizing the good part and so 'liberals must be bad.'

"They hate us for our freedom."
"They are jealous of our virtue because they are sooooo bad."
Amazingly, this really resonates in A MASTER RACE MENTALITY!

OR:

Neo-cons put a baby in hot water.
Liberals accuse them of abuse.
Neo-cons claim that 'liberals hate babies.'

Christmas has been weaponized the exact same way.

Neo-cons use religion to kill people with the New Crusades.
Liberals cite First Amendment separation of church and state.
Neo-cons claim that 'liberals hate God, Jesus, Santa, etc.'

Neo-cons use our children as troops to kill for oil.
Liberals scream bloody murder.
Neo-cons claim 'liberals hate our troops.'

That last one is the most dangerous because it will lead to a Tienanmin Square situation where our own troops will be called in to stomp on 'enemies of the state' or PROTESTERS.
http://museums.cnd.org/June4th/massacre.html
(Photos of Tienanmin Square Massacre of Protesters)

The Inaugaral parade will see Bush* literally hiding behind our troops so that the hostility of the protesters will be used to claim that liberals are against the troops 'just like the Fallujan insurgents.'

Unh-oh. Orwellification of 'save our troops from war' into 'kill our troops by not supporting the war.'

January 20, 2005 is the next big psy-op event to create a Brown Shirt movement in this heavily armed and polarized country.

SO...

Re-Orwellification OR Flipping the Polarity on Evil Back to Good:

The Master Race mentality of American Exceptionalism Saving the World and the Christian-Inanity of being the wrathful smiting 'Chosen Few' are the binary agents of American Fascism.

There's no time to back up 358 degrees to explain to the public how the democratic humanity of 'We the People'+'All God's Children' has been perverted into American fascist 'Divine King Stomping out Satanic Infidels.'

SO FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE! CHANNEL THE PASSION FOR VENGEANCE INTO
A PASSION FOR JUSTICE! People WANT to be part of a dramatic movement in their lives which TV has turned into a movie script starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Indiana Jones, and Mel Gibson fighting evil.

Fight propaganda with...PROPER-GANDA!!!
I recommend pushing forward just 2 degrees USING those so so deeply entrenched-through-propaganda attitudes with a campaign of renewed reverence for

1) The Bill of Rights and US Constitution
2) Jesus' teachings about caring for the poor and needy.

These are the tenets of The American Revolution AND Jesus Christ AND liberalism!!

We must flip the polarity of these ideas back to caring for ALL people instead of Republican Eugenics that justifies death by both poverty and war as being necessary 'collateral damage' for the greater good of the herd.

93. Thanks. I did. I'm spreading PROPER-GANDA all over the place.
I just told a Navy recruiter standing in line for lunch all about Operation Vigilant Warrior, Peak Oil, Bush/Saudi-financed terrorism etc. in a friendly way and concluded "I know people like you are trying to do the right thing but you're being given bad info."

He was actually interested and said "Thanks, I'll go look that up when I get back to my computer."

Don't let the fascists push us back into the bloody past.
Help guide your neighbors towards the Evolving Door so they aren't part of the murder-for-profit scam. Tell them how it works and has deceived them despite their good intentions.

This puts you on the same side instead of divided.

20. Reminds me of Christmas 2001...
Reminds me of Christmas 2001...I went to see my boyfriend's then 8 year old's Christmas show at her elementary school. At the beginning, they asked everyone to stand for the national anthem and presentation of the colors. We stood and put our hands over our hearts. They did NOT play the national anthem, however. We got a blaring recording of "Proud to Be an American" so loud my ears hurt.

My boyfriend (who was a staunch pro-war Republican at the time...he's been converted since) got pissed too and we both sat down once the flags were in place. People were staring at us like we'd sprouted feathers. His freeper mom snapped at us later until we explained the heresy of calling that song the national anthem.

BTW...somewhat poor urban heavy Democratic district in VA. Lotsa brainwashed white trash there though.

"Heil Bush" programs put on by my son's elementary music teacher a few years ago. Thank God I don't have to suffer through those anymore. His music teacher actually had them sing "The Yellow Rose of Texas" in honor of "our good and wonderful president." Needless to say, I felt like everyone was going to stand up, extend their right arm, and yell "Heil Bush!"

26. Or they could have dedicated "Yellow Rose of Texas" to Condi!
Emily Morgan was a mulatto belonging to Col. James Morgan of Harrisburg. Actually, she'd been nominally freed & signed up as an indentured servant, due to the Mexican law against slavery which was one of the reasons for the Texas Revolution. Texas legend says she was beautiful & caught Santa Ana's eye. His dalliance with her supposedly distracted him sufficiently to be surprised by Sam Houston's army. Therefore, she's responsible for Texas independance.

This is all mostly legend, but it would be amusing to repeat the tale to any music teacher thinking the song is a fit tribute to Bush.

Every Friday my son's school (K-5) has a morning assembly and they always sing this kind of crap. And the teachers actually walk around and make any child who is sitting down and not participating to stand up and join in. I have been taking my son to school 15 minutes late every Friday because I refuse to have him forced to participate in this type of crap!

the new principal. 3rd principal in 3 years.. She just told me that if I felt that way, it was for the best that my son and I did not attend the assemblies. He has another one in the morning where is class is to sing "God Bless America", "Silent Night" and some song about the 3 Wise Men. So, he won't be there for that one either. His teacher told me today that since the class was to be on stage singing these 3 songs that my son was required to be there. I told her that there was no way that he was going to do it, that he was not going to sing song praising our government and since we are Pagans he's not standing up there and singing Christmans songs if HE chooses not to.. She looked like I had hit her in the face with a bag of turds when she walked off from me..

And I thought my child's school was bad what with the school colors being red, white and blue and them singing the Star-Spangled Banner every morning. Along with the US pledge, the Texas pledge and a minute of silence, all enforced by state law as of June 2003.

My child's choir/holiday concert did have songs about Baby Jesus but the rest were secular and nothing was nationalistic.

If you don't my me asking, where do you live? Here in sunny, cold, polluted DE we had a typical holiday concert, You know a little of everything which is fine by me. You know, these little fascist moments are starting to add up. I can't start a post yet, I'm still too new. Could some one start a thread so we could all share are recent brush ups with fascism. My sons middle school recently had a "difficult" moment when an 8th grader wore a "The real terrorist is living in the White House" tee shirt. I don't know about you but I couldn't have been any prouder than if he was my own son. Any ways it caused a real brouhaha. The school board is going to meet to "revisit" the dress code policy. I'll let you know what comes out of it.
I'd love to hear others' examples of fascism in action.

...A couple songs my wonderful hippie grade-school music teacher taugh us in the 70s: "Johnny, We Hardly Knew You" ("You haven't an arm, you haven't a leg, You'll have to be put with a bowl to beg...") and "Johnny Has Gone For A Soldier", with the memorable (and now timely) verse: "I'll sell my clock, I'll sell my reel, I'll sell my only spinning wheel, To buy my love a sword of steel..." Why don't the kids sing THOSE songs these days?

On the other hand she taught us dozens of Christmas carols. I sing them to this day, even though I'm an avowed pagan. We never, NEVER would have been taught this jingoistic slop.

Mrs. Barrand, if you're reading, thank you for broadening my horizons!

There was a speech in the movie "Destination Tokyo" with Cary Grant where his character told the crew of the Sub a story about how the Japanese gave their 5-y-o boys knives and we gave ours toy trains.

Guess we'll soon be giving OUR 5 y-o's knives...

My wife went to a holiday concert at the elementary school today and saw the same damn thing, plus little red, white and blue "cheerleaders" swinging pom-poms.

Sorry guys, I'm for Canada ASAP.

people who just happened to born where they were born.

The majority of those were innocent, defenseless women and children

Heil big dog!

We are the big dog on the block! Wow! How come you are not in Iraq playing the "big dog" right now?

a big dog with rabies--mad, insane and killers of babies, pregnant women and old men. For NOTHING but greed and profit.

all done on lies and still the lies continue.

Kill them all, American great big dog.
all of them! You are salivating in your rabitic disease, wasting away in some sick frame of mind that will eventually see your demise.

Merry CHRIST mas.

Why is that something we should teach our kids? Teach them that they should be proud we can bully any country we want. When I was a kid we were proud that we gave to UNICEF and Care and were for peaceful solutions to the world's problems.

I don't have kids but if I did I would surely let them know that I don't care for the America we are becoming. I did believe in the America I knew when I was younger but not today.

it. I don't know about you but I've been in this position before. I'm old enough to remember the fights we had about Vietnam and all the turmoil of the 60's.

The reason we are becoming the America we are is because a lot of people who did not like the outcome of the 60's decided to take control of the country and change it back to what went before. They got control but it is a wait and see if they turn it back to the 50's.

No, I'm not going anywhere and neither are the 1/2 of us who don't like what we are becoming.

there have been soldiers who died who were older than you and some who are being sent that are older than you.

If you enlisted, you would be accepted, deah. That is the truth.

So why don't you just take your ass down to the recruiting office and sign right up?

Scared? Too comfortable where you are, wrapping yourself in the flag, while cheerlieading others who are dying and coming home in that same flag--except it's draping their coffin?

Scared to go out on a patrol where a bomb might blow your both legs off , not to mention your gonads.

I bet you would love to kill a few Iraqi children, but are too scared to go there to do it.

73.  I am not supporting this slaughter in Iraq
and never did wrap myself in the flag in order to kill people, mostly women and children on despicable and transparent lies made by a madman who was AWOL himself during wartime.

It is up to the Commander in Chief to admit, in his greed and coveting, he made a horrific blunder and is responsible for the deaths of 100,000 innocent people. He is a war criminal and there is no doubt about that.

It is up to this fascist coward of an AWOL Commander in Chief , who loves to dress up like a wannabe warrior, to make up for his cowardice, to stop his murder of so many innocent babies. He is indeed a baby killer.

I am proud to be an American for the ideals this country stands (or should stand) for. Not because we are the biggest dog on the block.

I am first generation, daughter of a Survivor. My parents taught me love of country from, I am supposing, quite a different perspective than the way yours taught you.

Respect is a two way street, and right now I am not feeling a whole lot of respect from Washington. Now Thomas Jefferson, FDR, John Kennedy, John Kerry -- THEM I can respect.

71. walldude, confront the teacher and tell us what she says about it
I am very curious, because I do think this is exceptional. When I was in elementary school, we did traditional carols, but overwhelmingly our songs and performances were oriented around multiculturalism, as was the thrust of much of our classwork. I remember that one group was assigned Native American, another French, one Japanese, etc. Our group did Indian culture, so we sang Hare Krishna.

80. I couldn't get to talk to her tonight
After the 5th grade performance(normal holiday songs thank god) there was another performance and she was very busy, will get to her as soon as I can and post the info here.

And to leans2left, no there is nothing wrong in pride in your country... to a point. If they had had a banner with Bush's picture at the performance then this would have been no different than Communist Russia, Red China or Nazi Germany. I have traveled to many other countries, and I work with people from all over the world so maybe I have a slightly different perspective than you do. In spite of what King George tells us, Islamic countries don't hate us because we are free. Or because we are Christian. (we are not a Christian nation, we are multi-denominational) It's our foreign policy, our greed, our willingness to support the government without question that causes the world to hate us. One thing I've learned dealing with people from all over the world, whether they be Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist or whatever, they all want the same thing. What people want is to be free and safe. They want their children to grow up without fucking land mines in their backyard, they want clean water, food, a place to sleep. While most Americans have that in abundance, alot of the world is not so lucky. If you can sit there and smugly say that you never went to another country and you never want to, then you must except the fact that your ignorance of what the world is really like lays part of the responsibility for what happened on 9/11 on your shoulders. Ignoring the cries of a child does not make them go away, and neither does lying about it. I'm proud of the ideal of America not of America itself. And the truth is, one day we will discover that we are not alone in the universe, and at that point maybe we can stop being Christians, Jews, Americans, Germans, French, Italian etc, and just be what we really are. Earthlings.

This performance was incredibly sad. It consisted of 3rd and 4th graders, as well as the school choir(different grades). Throughout the entire ordeal not a single child had a smile on his or her face. I couldn't help but think about all the rehearsals that they had to endure, singing and voicing this crap.

86. And I thought MY kid's holiday concert was bad!
The music director dedicated one of the songs to the "brave men blah blah blah who are fighting for our freedom blah blah blah over in <insert country here>." I wouldn't have minded it if he'd just mentioned dedicating it to our armed forces, but nooooooo, he had to go and stick his little political editorial in there, too.

Good luck saying something. When I spoke to the principal about the concert and the music director, she was like, "Huh? Whadya mean?" Four more years (of holiday concerts)!!!

95. Try to get them to sing "This Land is Your Land"
Including the verses they usually leave out---

As Woody intended it.

THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND
words and music by Woody Guthrie

Chorus:
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me

As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

I've roamed and rambled and I've followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was sounding
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

The sun comes shining as I was strolling
The wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
The fog was lifting a voice come chanting
This land was made for you and me

Chorus

I was walkin' - I saw a sign there
And that sign said - no tress passin'
But on the other side .... it didn't say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!

Chorus

the squares of the city - In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office - I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.

96. Maybe they're afraid
the REAL message would get out. You know, the one in "O Holy Night":

"Truly he taught us to love one another
His law is love and his gospel is peace
Chains shall he break for the slave is our brother
And in his name all oppression shall cease."

But that's not the message they want the kids to learn, is it? x(

I'm gonna go hug a tree.
