The GOP is going to be taught a HARD lesson
Whether they will learn from it is another story entirely.

This is a lesson that has been taught to would-be tyrants and conquerers throughout the millenia.

It is even given specific mention by Sun Tzu in this verse:

"If I wish to trap an enemy, I leave him a way to escape. That way he will not fight to the death to defeat me."

To put it more simply, it is considered very foolish to corner a wounded animal.

Now that the GOP has control of the majority of the state legislatures, governor's mansions, the House, the Senate, and the White House, they think that they will be able to rule the roost unopposed.

I am sorry, but I would have to tell them in response to that to go take that pipe dream of totalitarian rule and shove it up their collective asses so far that you would need a bathyscape to find it.

I think it is time, fellow Democrats, Liberals, Progressives, Socialists, Greens, Communists, Moderates, True Conservatives, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Bhuddists, Hindus, Pagans, and all those others who oppose the reckless agenda of the Reich Wing to stand our ground, MAKE our elected officials fight for what are the TRUE American values of Freedom, Diversity, Tolerance, Honour, and Dignity, and show those GOP dirty lying hypocritical SOBs that you don't fight someone who has nothing to lose.

For they forget that when you fight an enemy who has nothing to lose all they care about is not whether they live or die, but how many of their foe they can drag down into the grave with them.

If it be our fate that American Democracy be torn down and the great experiment in popular rule be turned into a one-party dicatorship, then at least I stand resolved that historians will NOT say, "The United States went down without a whimper."

I say, let them do their worst!

Let them come!

That day of the ending of this great republic will come, but I say to you, let us do all that is in our power to say in one loud clear voice to those who would seek to tear down this union of free peoples for which blood has been shed to mantain, "NOT THIS DAY!"

1. Well said
This is the message that we all need to hear. The GOP got us, at various levels. We are not giving up, and they will lose the nation with their outlandish policies. They will run themselves out of power, and they will alienate the South along with the rest of the country.

The best thing we can do is voice a strong and consistent minority opposition. Prove who is in charge so that when the whole thing comes crashing down, we will all know who to blame.

3. Exactly!
You don't win a fight by taking it like a champ and not hitting back. People might say, "He fought well," but guess what:

HE LOST.

In a swordfight, there is no second place, only winner and corpse. These guys have drawn the lines in that fashion, then we have to show them that we DO have balls and have NO problem with hitting back.

They want to say they are the party of responsibility and morality, fine, let's see how they do when they are the ones who hold all the levers of power and can't blame it on us.

4. Thanks!
Just saying what I feel. Now if only I could say it on the national media, then that would be really sweet!

6. We gotta use that
Doesn't matter if you outnumber your foe if they are deployed to the field in a way that neutralizes your advantage in numbers.

7. That's a key point.
They derive their power because they have control of the media who keeps telling us that we are in the minority. When was the last time you saw a Republican demonstration of, say, more than 100 people? Who weren't at a national convention? They are resorting to "red/blue" simple graphs that convey a false message of Republican strength...but since when does geography take sides in political matters?

I'm convinced that a clean national election where everyone is given a chance to make his preferences know, would be overwhelmingly Democratic. And this majority is going to grow because the Republican policies are benefiting a very small minority...at the expense of the majority.

8. Good point - we have nothing to lose...
therefore we must get back to the basic definition of what it means to be a Democrat. This is rock bottom folks, embrace what is true and leave behind the fools that brought us to this place.

10. I say we should support the Libertarian Party
as a true conservative, minimal government party that should be a viable alternative for disgruntled Republicans. Let's face it--we don't want our Party to move right to attract conservatives...so why not support the spoiler of the Repug party? Their fundie base alone can't win an election.

11. Absolutely not, and here's why ...
I've had many debates with a dyed-in-the-wool Libertarian who's voted the straight L-party ticket for decades. He's pro-choice, anti-capital punishment, and supports legalizing drugs. Sounds fairly progressive, right? But eventualy every debate comes down to this: He truly believes that if no one has to pay taxes, private enterprise will naturally assume responsibility for funding infrastructure, social programs, education, and provide for those who can't help themselves. Can you say "incredibly naive?"

12. Whenever we win back power
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 07:18 AM by Selatius
I'd really wish for the Democratic Party to adopt election reform as part of its platform. Specifically, instituting ranked voting (IRV) for all federal elections, eliminating the Electoral College (America is purple), having taxpayer subsidized federal elections with a ban on outside money, and perhaps look into finding a way to solve gerrymandering once and for all if we have enough strength (proportional representation instead of congressional districts?).

13. But immediately,
we need to work for a better way to oversee elections in this country. The power needs to be taken away from Diebold and ES&S and all the other private cos. with voting equipment. The operating code needs to be in the public domain. Put voting commissions in each state made up of an equal # of Dems and repugs, not some patronage recipient like Katherine Harris or Kenneth Blackwell.

14. Use the courts
The GOP fears the courts more than anything on earth. Mainly because they lose even if they win. It costs them a lot of money to defend themselves. Money and time. Why do you think they are so adamant about stocking the courts with like minded judges. The legal system is our only recourse and we need to use it. It will cost us dearly as well but at least our money will be spent in a worthwhile manner instead of giving it to politicians who promise the moon and then forget all about us once they get elected. The constitution is pretty plain and we need to defend it with as much vigor as possible. If we can get Moveon and a few others to help us fight with legal challenges we will win out in the end because the GOP has become a criminal organization.

Ride now, ride now! Ride to Gondor!"

19. The talk of Joementum Lieberman for DHS Director is their "corner"
by which they plan to "escape". I fear if Joe falls for the trap, the current band of theocrats will do as much damage as possible to OUR Country and come Sept 11 2008, have an anniversary "special" planned that will dwarf the original and leave all Dems painted with the brush of Joe's "failure", leaving that falls election primed for president Frist to complete the fundy dream of armageddon.

/wish I were kidding
