3. throwing a bone...
a huge bone, to his high dollar financial industry contributors - that's all this "fix" is. W's tax cuts for the wealthy could get Social Security back on track, but our millionaires would be hurting without the help. I hope we see some huge protests not just here but around the world on inauguration day. Do hope that W. can keep from getting assassinated, can you imagine President Cheney????

How can 59,000,000 people be so dumb? W = :evilfrown:

7. People of middle and low incomes have been paying into
social security two or three more percentage points of their income since 1984 in order to build up a social security surplus in the trust fund from which to pay the social security of the huge "baby boomer" cohort.

For 2004, all wage income up to $89,000 for each individual, I believe, will be subject to social security tax.

Now, the Pubbies are telling those of us who paid the extra social security taxes that our money will never go to help pay our social security retirement payments.

That means that the extra social security tax was really nothing more than an income tax increase on the middle and lower classes.

I think that we Dems should publicize this fact, and demand that:

1) income taxes be decreased for middle and lower payers by the amount that social security taxes were raised since 1984, and/or;

2) two or three percentage points should be added to taxes for the upper brackets, and;

3) that a social security surcharge be added to capital gains and estate taxes for the next 20 years to recover what should have been equitably paid by the wealthy in income taxes over the last 20 years.

And that's in addition to rolling back the * cuts since 2001.

Put that together with savings from withdrawing from Iraq and see where the budget sits at the end of 2006 or so.

4. Please don't even joke about this.
He is about to seriously screw most senior citizens out of their benefits at a time of their lives that they can't go back to the drawing board and start over again.

8. Was not meant as a joke...
Rather a lament for what will be another "trust me" type of operation that will enrich his political cronies and screw everyone else in the ground!
