ON EDIT: Al is not actually there (he's in the Middle East); it's Katherine and Joe Conason.

But this is the first time I've heard the show even acknowledge the news in this area for several weeks.

They're talking to Rep. Jerry Nadler.

1. I'm listening now

Al sounds like he is in a learning mode.

He should be far more up on this, he has wimped out.

4. Mark Crispin Miller tried to school him over a month ago.
Al wasn't having it.

For some reason, the burden of proof must be irrefutable before some people will even acknowledge the need for an investigation.

7. I remember, and I couldn't recall the show mentioning it since...
Even when Mark Crispin Miller came on again.

2. Update: mentioned e-voting! As well as voter suppression.

Nadler discussed what appeared to be vote-shifting on electronic machines and need for a paper trail.

Joe Conason asked whether optical scan machines deprived Kerry of enough votes to win election. Nadle said he doesn't know about black box voting; said he can't prove election was stolen that way because there's no paper trails.

Mentioned odds of exit polls being wrong.

Mentioned not enough machines. Says you can't estimate how many Kerry votes were lost because of that.

Said we need to make sure these things don't happen again.

Said HAVA is flawed legislation, does not mandate paper trails.

EDITING to add more:

Joe asking if it's constitutional to require nonpartisan election officials. Nadler said Congress can legislate this, as well as the number of people per voting machine.

Said thousands of people were disenfranchised, probably deliberately.

Nadler said report due in 9-12 months, though he's been urging sooner.

Said Republicans in Congress don't seem to be interested in this. But if we develop enough public pressure when it's not election time we might get something done. Mentioned 1968 - I didn't catch it.

...I was just so excited to hear this show even mention this, as the Al Franken show has become sort of like MSM to me because of the things they do and don't cover. I wish that weren't the case.

3. Yes!
Amazing that they are actually talking about it.

Saying that there are too many votes difference for recount to make any difference, and he does not think it was stolen, blah, blah...

9. so how come the change of heart?
I heard a very disturbing commercial with Katherine Lanpher touting Franken's trip to Iraq. It was really disgusting, filled with all sorts of titillating comment--similar to "will he come back"?. "will he be attacked?" --not a quote, just an impression I had when listening. I cannot remember the exact words, but no doubt in my mind it was an attempt at publicity in it's most reprehensible form.

I could not stand it, because it seemed to me to be nothing but a commercial for Franken's visit to the troops in Iraq. I wondered if he is trying to be the next Bob Hope. But the ad was way off o, crass and insensitive.

Why is it that others on AAR, do not have ads on AAR publisizing where and what they are doing?

For instance, Randi Rhodes went to Ohio to cover the vote counting challenge at the beginning of the week. Did we hear an AAR ad, touting her visit there?

Does Franken pay for these self promoting ads himself?
