Holy Hand Grenade - The Sin of Sodom
Lob this at a Christian wannabe under the right circumstances.....

Ezekiel 16:49-50

Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed, and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

Most Fundies don't know this verse and would assume that Sodom's sin was homosexuality. The story of Sodom and the other cities of the plain is much more complex. It is found in Genesis, mainly in chapters 18 and 19. A reading of chapter 14 is beneficial, however, as it shows the relationship between Abraham and the King of Sodom.
Abraham is a powerful type and the relationship that Christians have to God through Jesus Christ, is supposed to reflect the relationship that Abraham had with God. Abraham was called the Friend of God. If the world of Jews, Christians, and Muslims concentrated more on Abraham there would be much improvement, imho. Abraham pleaded with God for Sodom and Gomorrah, et al.

More to cometh.....

1. For most fundies, the Bible is to be taken literally.
That is, except for those parts that don't agree with their politics.

4. Ya think, huh?
Hypocrisy would be funny if it wasn't so tragic. Jesus was harder on hypocrites than any other group. Why can't we see this?

3. Hmm, well I always thought that Yahweh or Abraham's God
was a volcano diety. I mean the fire and brimstone, the pillar of fire, and the burning bush on Mt. Sinai all point to a kind of animism in the original concept of the Hebrew God. He even took his son Isaac up on a mountain, or perhaps a volcano type mountain to sacrifice him to the God. Also, Genesis mentions other gods. It's not until Moses gets the Ten Commandments that the Hebrews are ordered not to worship false gods or graven images.

6. Interesting.
Especially when one considers the geography - Mediterranean rim. Lots of volcanic activity, at least on the northern coastline.

Hey, just found this page: http://www.volcano.si.edu/world/region.cfm?rnum=01

Check out all the known volcanoes, even right near Israel.

5. Most people define "arrogant" incorrectly.
arrogant

adj : having or showing feelings of unwarranted importance out of overbearing pride; "an arrogant official"; "arrogant claims"; "chesty as a peacock"

It's not enough to be insufferable; you have to be insufferable in an unwarranted manner to be arrogant.
