Voters may be asked to remove Florida's church-state ban

Christian conservatives frustrated by court rulings that have found a school voucher program unconstitutional may have hit upon a possible solution: changing the constitution.

Sen. Daniel Webster, a former House speaker and now the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Wednesday he is exploring the possibility of a citizens initiative to repeal the 136-year-old wording that separates church and state in Florida.

But Webster said the ruling, if it's upheld by the state Supreme Court, goes beyond vouchers. The language in the constitution prohibits giving tax money "directly or indirectly in aid of any church, sect, or religious denomination or in aid of any sectarian institution" — a definition Webster said could include colleges, hospitals and other groups that are affiliated with a religious institution.

"It's huge," he said of the potential impact.

Gov. Jeb Bush this week said he was not convinced that a constitutional amendment was necessary because the Supreme Court might still overturn the appeals court. Bush this year successfully pushed through a ballot initiative repealing the bullet train and is now trying to repeal the voter-approved class-size amendment.

2. The US constitution would override it
Doesn't mean that with a fundy SC it wouldn't be repealed there also.
I personally don't see it happening

4. The battle for Theocracy
is NOT going to go away. In fact, it will potentially enagage everyone who is concerned about the foundational concepts that define this country.

I was optimistic that this trend would balance out or dimish not too long after it became more apparent on a wider scale. That optimism is betrayed by the fact that the determination to by Dominionist-style factions is persistent on both local and National levels.

How does one stay such a dogmatic and fundamentalist paradigm? It comes in sheep's clothing. Unlike the sincere and faithful, who are a minority, this wave of Chisto-Fascism exposes itself by its total lack of tolerance for diverse views and a nearly pathlogical need to force and enforce its religiously extracted ideology on increasingly larger numbers. In that case, it is about power and control.

Like it or not, this is not longer a partisan, political issue alone. As we are seeing, it is an escalation of a very real culture war. It is the kind of conflagration that will not be estiquished in a simple, political way because it tangentially transcends the ethics and boundaries of said.

The greatest benefit in this struggle is to know thy enemy. Among the secular, Christian Left, and other religions and ideals, there needs to be a sharp focus and study of the subject. This is tantamount to preseving freedom, tolerance, and values that apply to all. The gavity of the situation should be expressed openly and with fervor, once it is comprehended.

This is very serious. It should be clear that the sentiment is not ANTI-anything or religious persecution, (which is part of the sheep's clothing that acts as a sheild and smokescreen).
