Anyone else just hear Franken's call-in to his show? |
|
He talked to a soldier who had to watch the beheading films to determine if there was any continuity in them. There was distortion in the satellite phone call from Al. But it sounded like Al was breaking up into tears over what the soldier was going through.
Also, on a lighter note, he did make fun of the commander in his comedy routine. He asked if the soldiers thought that the "don't ask, don't tell" rule was ridiculous. And he said he then asked the commander - "You're gay, aren't you?". He got some laughs from the troops about that. Katherine said Al was being true to his formula of always making fun of the commanders when he's done USO shows.
Hope I got all this accurately. I was doing some other stuff while listening to AAR.

1. Yes. I heard the same thing. He sounded like he was going to cry. |

I think he'll have a lot of similar stories upon his return.

while talking about that soldier and about a young soldier who died.
Al says he might take 'don't ask don't tell' and tell his audience the military is going to start applying it to Democrats.
He also talked about one of his routines, where he comes onstage wearing a 'flak jacket' made out of a garbage can lid - it's been cut and pounded it into shape to resemble a makeshift vest - he tells the audience he has about 700 (or did he say 750?) more...
It was good to hear his voice.
