Canceling Verizon (Repugnican whores)
I called to cancel my Verizon land line today.

I told them that I was really using my cell phone much more, and figured I could live without it. I also told them that key to my leaving was their tremendous support for the Republican Party.

The rep I spoke to said she had never heard that, and seemed both shocked and concerned. I don't think she was happy working for the Repugs, either.

I told her that I had mixed feelings, because Verizon also had a very good diversity policy. But I felt that having a good diversity policy AND supporting the Repugnicans (I used that word) was a little like bailing a boat and drilling holes in it at the same time.

She agreed with me, "You can't have it both ways," and said she would pass this along to her supervisors.

I mentioned that there was a group of people planning on all dumping Verizon, simultaneously, on the same day.

Does anyone know what group that is, or what day it's supposed to be?

Or should we just start such a thing right here and now? A whole bunch of people all dumping Verizon on the same day?

1. I don't have Verizon but I'd be happy to call and cancel my nonexistent
account just to frazzle someone for fifteen minutes if we like.

2. she doesn't have to inform her supervisors;
they already know. The call was certainly recorded as you were cancelling your service.

Did ALL Verizon money go to Reps? or just the individuals in their leadership positions?

3. Interesting. Verizon has applied for rate increase in VA
and they're getting a lot of resistance.

5. I wonder
How much of the rethug giving has to do with the fact that three of the above mentioned companies are in various stages of large mergers (Cingular, Verizon, and Sprint). Big business and rethugs...hmmm

9. Mergers and Repug donations
Hmmm... you noticed that, too?

Isn't it amazing that the FCC, FTC and SEC seem to have not ruled against any mergers since sometime in the middle of Clinton's second term? (You can't blame it ALL on Bush, but it's certainly gotten worse).

13. Yea! I'm with T-Mobile.
I wouldn't have wanted to switch, because I've been happy with them. I used to be with Verizon, but they were too expensive and I had too many dropped calls.

T-Mobile has excellent customer service, and I haven't had any problems yet with coverage (in a far suburb of Dallas/Denton)

6. In Tampa Verizon Data Services
fired 2000 programmers and replaced them with H2Bs.... It took them a couple years but in the end 2000 programmers where out of work....

I still have Verizon land line because of DSL. I just hate Verizon less than Time Warner..... .

7. Verizon Has Good Coverage In the Sticks - TMobile Doesn't Work Out Here
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 03:47 PM by AndyTiedye
It looks like all the landline companies are about 60/40, probably
out of fear of retribution from Michael Powell if they don't
pony up to the Repubs. TMobile is less beholden to the FCC, because
they don't have any landlines. But TMobile is all GSM 1900,
which doesn't work once you get out into the country around here.

There are better boycott targets than these companies.

They contribute to both parties, but a bit more to the Dems.

14. I don't begrudge anyone where they work
I used to work for an evil bigoted fundie who defrauded his customers.

You have to earn a living.

Just do what I did: Collect evidence of wrong-doing and/or criminality, and take that with you to blow the whistle should you ever get fired.

Never threaten to use it (that would be blackmail). Just *do it* without any warning or threats.

I've done that twice, and been very happy with the results each time.

15. You go guy!!!
Part of me wouldn't mind doing that to my former boss, but I have a feeling things will catch up with him eventually anyway. Let's just say, all small businesses are audited sooner or later. His hasn't been yet (he's been in business now for 13 years), and when it is, he ain't gonna pass.
