Isn't About Time For a Well-Made, Film Documentary Exposing Jerry Falwell?
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 05:16 PM by David Zephyr
I'm serious.

I'm tired of waiting.

Isn't it high time that a Michael Moore style, hard-hitting feature length film documentary was made on one of the biggest phonies this nation has ever known: Jerry Falwell?

Shouldn't all American Christians be introduced to Jerry's long sordid past and his financial whoring with the Reverend Moon?

Shouldn't all Americans be made aware of how Falwell, when he was in need of cash, shamelessly peddled videos falsely claiming that the Clintons murdered their good friend, Vince Foster.

Shouldn't the WHOLE story of how a lustful and envious Jerry Falwell set out to sabotage Jim and Tammy Baker's reputation in order to steal their financially successful ministry from them?

I think that it would also make the other high profile religious bigots like Pat Robertson take notice that they might just be next..and there's plenty of shit on Robertson, too. Plenty.

Wouldn't you think that such a documentary, if properly done, would provide some film-maker a big box office and reputation?

Isn't it time we turn the tables on these piggish fakes?

Who will make the documentary to expose this fat old money-grubbing and perverted fraud, this very creepy man named Jerry Falwell?

3. That has Michael Moore written all over it.
Can you imagine how that'd open the eyes of people?

5. MM would be good
But I think too many of the wingnuts will not view anything Moore produces/directs. Needs to be a new film maker, or perhaps one who is established.

22. Nah, they love to hate him. They'll curse him out, but won't pass up
a chance to see his take on the Right Reverend. I think he'd be absolutely great....love to see a one-on-one interview, but that would never happen.

4. Marjoe Gortner did one on PBS several years ago
exposing the whole tent meeting circuit and televangelist thing. I wish PBS would rerun it.

Gortner was named for Mary/Joseph, raised in a holy roller family, and pushed out as a child preacher as soon as he was out of diapers. His expose was wonderful, and I'll never forget the shot of him counting the thousands of dollars from poor folks after a tent meeting, saying "Glory Gee to Beezus!"

Things haven't changed since it was run, except that more of the hucksters have found their way into TV studios. They're still living like sultans on the cash they extort from poor and lonely people who have been convinced they can bribe their way out of hell.

8. I think Gortner is still around and has some movie experience.
If M. Moore were to do this, perhaps he could get Gortner on board for the fine points. Oliver Stone could probably pull it off too.

9. It was one of the great films from the 1970's.
I saw it in Argentina.

"My name is Marjoe and I've come to town to give the devil two black eyes."

I truly believe that with all the phony focus on the "moral" vote, that it's high time for a real, hard-hitting theatrical-released film exposing Falwell or Robertson, but just one of them so that it is done well.

17. well the whole thing was a very big deal in my family while it was
happening so I always take notice when people mention him. I think people tend to forget that Marjoe was FIRST in all the magazines as a child progemny of sorts..so he was MADE famous first by his evangelism THEN pulled the rug out from under the whole scene.

7. is there a BOOK that really exposes
that asshole? 'cause, last night I was thinking about compiling "FOULING THE WELL:The Case Against Jerry Falwell"

as a gay liberal, nothing scares me more (right now) that the rise of 'christian' conservatives, esp. when they are led by godless corporate "christians" like foulwell and robertson.

11. If you go to People for the American Way ...
and Americans United for Church and State (and affiliated sites), you can see that the RR orgs. (Religious Right organizations) have huge annual budgets. Many receive funding from the Four Sisters (Richard Mellon Scaife, the Coors family, the Olins).

And Paul Weyrich and Richard Mellon Scaife have backed Jerry Falwell in the past - in fact, they largely created the current image.

The guy who exposed the RR via film would have to be Michael Moore - he's the only one who could afford the security.

19. your "the religious RIGHT is WRONG" sign ... reminds me of a Catholic
Priest who, in one of his homilies at the Chapel I used to attend, said in very perfect, clear, articulate ENGLISH language, 'THE CHRISTIAN RIGHT USUALLY GETS IT WRONG'...

He is one of the few tried and true Catholic Priests I am willing to vouch for.

Instead a true, down to earth entertaining documentary exposing that Nazi filth fraudulent Pharisee.

Flyint would do it with a passion!

12. Bill Moyers, one of the great journalists, is the one to do it.
Moyers has done so many brilliant pieces of journalism over almost half a century. He's retiring and turning over PBS's NOW to others to carry on.

He leaves a great legacy, but if he'd just do one more project, either a documentary on Falwell and the religious right, or an expose on how this country is being flushed down the toilet by BushCo.

Coming from Moyers, it would carry more weight, and garner more attention than virtually any other film-maker or journalist could command.

20. A dangeous Mix.
The so called Christian right have been organizing for many years. Now they finally have the Fascist Right Wing Junta and much of Corp. and multi Corps, plus many of the Media Moguls in Amerika and elsewhere under their sway. Anyone that dismisses this juggernaught as harmless is not paying attention. The alliances that have been created are a massive power block. The Neo Fascists have placated this block for their own agenda. Amerika is in peril.

21. So our party "leaders" can denounce it?
What we need is a coordinated media campaign against these devilish people. It has to be organized and sustained, and our leaders have to put their names behind it.

Otherwise, all we get is another F/911.
