Received an answer from Casual Male
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 08:08 PM by Walt Starr
Dear Walter

I am very sorry that your shopping experience in our Naperville location was negatively affected by a distasteful selection of stations. I have spoken to the store manager personally and can tell you that the station has been blocked and all stores in the district advised not to play it at any time in their location. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and Happy Holidays!.

Mary Ann Funkey

District Manager

and my reply to her response:

Dear Maryann,

Thank you very much for your response! I will definitely shop with you again and will let everybody know about the positive outcome to this issue!

Happy Holidays!

Walter E. Starr

Kinda stupid for a store that wants to attract customers from across the political spectrum. I figured it was anomolous and management would take care of it.

The same would hold true if they were playing Al Franken and five years ago if it had been a liberal station I probably would have done the same thing on principle. Today, however, had it been AAR, I would have said nothing. The Reichwing have proven to me that liberals can no longer do the dirty work of the Reichwing over principles.

10. having grown up in du page county...
i'm not surprised that's what they were playing, since it's likely most of their customers listen to the same thing. nice to know they cleaned up their act.

12. DuPage went to Bush, 54 to 45
but Obama took more than two votes to every one Keyes took in the county.

If a store wants to alienate that 45%, they are open to it unless upper management in a large corporation does not want that alienation to occur.

My Mom says you always have to tell management what's going on, and give them a chance to keep your business.

14. Interesting....
I thought it was illegal (copyright problems) for any business to play a radio that could be heard by customers. Instead, retailers pay companies like Muzak to provide music for the shop. I know the RIAA was cracking down on this BIG TIME in Florida a few years back. For instance, even an auto shop could not have a radio playing if it could be heard by the customers because the content was copyright protected. It could be construed that the shop was using the music to enhance their customer's shopping environment, thus violating the copyright.

15. I don't know about that
but when I worked in retail we weren't allowed to play the radio because we couldn't control the content. A song might be suggestive, an opinion on a talk show might offend or a commercial for a competitor might play.

The store did budget a certain amount for CDs so we could have music in the store, though.

I don't give a damn about the employee's political beliefs except when they get in my face with their beliefs.
