I hope everybody's watching Bill Moyers "NOW."
This is his last broadcast, and it's terrific. He's totally blasting the right-wing media -- exposing the lies and propaganda. Tune in!

2. This is an EXCELLENT program tonight
It needs to be made available online or on video so that we can pass it on to friends - people who don't realize how this country has been the proverbial frog doing a slow boil in the propaganda kettle...

7. I loved how he signed off.
Edited on Fri Dec-17-04 11:18 PM by Ilsa
I watched Brokaw sign off. All about "me me me". Moyers was talking about our democracy being under fire. Huge difference in the way they signed off. Makes Brokaw's look like an elementary school's news show with TB signing off because he was headed to junior high.

8. Just got finished watching it.
It was a superb show. The most memorable quote (for me) was this:

Moyers said, "The news is what powerful people want to keep hidden."

I had to let that sink in for a minute, but once I did, I couldn't agree more. It explains why Fox News is not news but, rather, propaganda. Propaganda shows you what the powerful people want you to see. Real news shows you what the powerful people don't want you to see.

Bill Moyers is a true patriot, and his presence in journalism will be missed.

19. Rubin Frank, NBC: "News is what someone wants to suppress,
everything else is advertising."

Frank Sesno, CNN
"We tell the people what they need to know,
not what they want to know."

Richard Salent, CBS
"Our job is to give people not what they want,
but what we decide they ought to have."

C.E.O. of Westinghouse(CBS), Advertising Age, February 3, 97
"We are here to serve advertisers. That is our raison d'etre."

9. Wish I could
canceled the basic cable, which was the only way I could get PBS. The only thing I've missed about basic cable is Moyers, and now he's leaving! :-(

20. Hitler reference
Check the transcript when it becomes available. On tonight's show Moyers compared the Bush Regime to Hitler. It was in the beginning of the show and he phrased it as only Moyers can.
