I filled out an application today, and I had to sign an agreement that if I were hired, I am a non-smoker. This struck me as a little odd. I don't smoke, but it meant that I would not only not smoke on the clock or during break, but at ANY TIME, even in my own home. I would not have insurance with this company, so that concern is moot.
It is just odd....

2. I think that's screwed up!! |
|
They will only give a person "healthcare coverage" IF they are HEALTHY? What the hell do I need with healthcare if I'm well? Healthcare is suppose to cover me for whatever BECAUSE I'M PAYING MY SHARE FOR THE THING!
So, Insurance companies/extortionists, collect ALL this money from people across the nation, but DON'T want to pay out for anything to "expensive"? Where the hell does all the money go then?
People pay confiscatory prices for healthcare insurance that DOESN'T EVEN COVER EVERYTHING. That's outrageous!

4. If I may ask, what kind of company is it? |
|
Is it like, a gym or a healthfood store, or some kind of job that requires you to be in extremely good shape?
Other than that reason, I can't understand why they would do that.

along with gays and many more. I am on a rampage against the tobacco industry and anything that will hurt them is ok by me. My Mother died of lung cancer a month ago.

6. I am not defending smokers |
|
I am just wondering why, at a stationary boutique and design firm, I would have to sign a form that I will not smoke. It would only be part-time so I would not qualify for healthcare plan under them anyway. I don't smoke and I am somewhat allergic to it, so I stay away from it, but I am also not one of these militants that you see who want to ban it outright. I say, if people do it, it is their concern, not mine, much like my views on pot. If I don't want to be bothered by someone smoking, I will get out of the way.
I feel this is a slippery slope. First cigarettes, then next time, junkfood or soda. We cannot legislate what people do in the privacy of their own homes. This whole environment is just scary to me. What makes it so hypocritical is that I don't have to take a drug test.
I am sorry about your mother:hug:
