If one is to fight then one must first over come their fears.
The trail of life is the act of living. If you run from your own fears then you run from the act of living. No man will win a fight if they can not face their fears.

2. Overcome what fear???
It seems when someone becomes enlightened enough to overcome one fear, they become enlightened to another fear. For example... I, personally, don't fear death or pain; but in the process of overcoming the fear of death and pain, I now face the fear of seeing other people in pain and misery, which leads to fear of other people's fears because other people's fears lead to the pain and misery of people in general. After a while, it seems fear becomes a risk management process.... What fears do you overcome to achieve the maximum benefits of life?

3. The fear of reality
Waking up to the realization that others have fears is the knowledge that a single person isn't enough to save everyone. No matter what one does they will never save the world. No matter how strong the desire is they can never reach everyone. The fear you described is the fear of knowing how tiny we really are.

Everyday someone will experience pain. Everyday someone will experience death. At this very moment somewhere in the world another is crying out. Life is always living because people live. We carry these pains as a result of our actions. This is why one must understand their fears and the reactions they cause.

When you compare the suffering that others go through your own suffering seems very small. When you face the fear that you can not help everyone then you will face the true trail of your soul. To give up or never surround will determine how strong you really are. Face these results and you will find a strength that many forget.
