I Guess Censorship of Artists really doesn't matter, Huh...
I posted a link to a Reuters article about the Artwork that was hung in the Chelsea Market Public Space, on the Lower West Side of Manhattan. The directors of the Market decided that if the Painting entitled: "Bush Monkeys" by Chris Savido was in the show, then the whole show had to come down, or the organizer Bucky Turco was going to jail. Bucky had to remove the show that was to hang for a month, meaning the other 59 artists lost their chance to have their work in a very Public Hot Spot.

Well, I Received exactly NO RESPONSE. WTF, is it not a big deal when a man can't make a statement with a painting anymore? Maybe my post was not worded well, but I am shocked that not one DU'er checked it out. Bucky was interviewed on AAR's "Majority Report", leading me to make the post in the first place.

Here is the Link again just in case this strikes a nerve in your Consciousness:

2. It was posted in LBN a few days ago and it got responses
A simple search of LBN will bear this out. Fact is, you were not the first to post about it.

Please don't attempt to take people to task for what you claim is their lack of caring and concern... especially when you're wrong.

3. Ummmm
Maybe because it was posted on Monday or Tuesday and everybody already saw it?

I'm among a number of people who commented on the original posting.

Get your panties out of a wad.

4. what happened to America?
Because (apparently) this is not a government facility, this is not actually censorship. The market can decide what they do and do not want hanging in their building. But this kind of pressure to conform is becoming all too common in the Murkan arts. In music, for example, the Country genre has become so repuke-ridden that "artists" routinely and reflexively self-censor. What's worse, many people in music, film and TV feel they must keep their political opinions to themselves in order to protect their careers.

5. no, I agree it sucks
and it is censorship, but as a private business, they have the right to not display it. Still is BS though, imo.

6. Businesses hate controversy
He should try to get the artists together and get their own space so they can display what they want without somebody else choosing for them.

7. because you received no response doesn't mean we didn't read it
I read it, followed links and am perfectly appalled. I also read an article last year that a very fine photographer's work was moved (virtually) to the basement from a prominent spot at the Smithsonian because he dared to photograph the continueing devistation of the oil spills. I no long take the Smithsonian Magazine.

I also stopped taking National Geographic Magazine after they published a "Everything is Fine" article about Iraq.

So, yes we read, and yes, we act and react.

And on a personal note, as an artist myself, I am no longer invited to participate in certain events in my town because I have made rather pointed comments with my art about the state of our nation and local town.

12. Thank you, I admire folks who will take a stand.
If you read the article you won't know the artists intent....he claimed it really wasn't a slam of Shrub, just a comment on the evolution of our society.

8. It was probably because your first post was a dupe and had
been discussed previously. I saw some discussion on this a few days ago.

11. I heard him on Air America
and then did a search for more details. I couldn't wait to share the details with my freeper friends who had boasted that this is a private business and they can censor whatever they want.

The details left out by the MSM:
1. ONE person complained
2. Several market employees who had been hired to work overtime for the opening and were looking forward to the extra pay are now out of luck
3. The artist had a signed contract. It has now been violated.
4. There were several thousand potential customers who had already RSVPed to attend the opening. So the market will now lose big bucks over this.

These censorers apparently just shot themselves in the foot. What dipshits.
