...i live in nearby Ohio, but have been to WVA a few times...mostly to the Huntington/Ashland area and to Charleston and Wheeling.
Yes, Huntington is actually a suprisingly pleasant small city.

I am near Morgantown and it is very difficult to find any support for the Whistle-ass up here. But that is in the town, out here in the country the fool has stong support from weak minds. I think he could easily be beat with simple newspaper and radio adds that exposed the truths of the Bush Presidency. They may be Bush supporters now but this is an area that knows what Unempolyment statistics really mean and understands what welfare cuts really do to good honest otherwise hardworking men, women, and familys. Spread the truth here and the boy ownder goes back to counting his toes in the tub for a mental challenge ....

hubby's applying to med schools and we both loved the WVU campus. PLUS you're only about 50 miles from dc and can get to protests pretty easily! we took the bus from hntgton into dc for the protest in jan. - left fri pm, protested all day sat., bussed back that night, and were working again (work from home) Sun. afternoon. yeah, it'd be great to be closer, ha! and the people in motown seemed great - friendly and intelligent.

You go out and jump on the interstate (I-68) from Morgantown and it will take you every minute of two and a half hours to get to DC. 50 miles will just barely get you into Maryland.

I do see a shift from bush to just about anyone else! I had a set of mattresses delivered last week and the guys were grumbling about bush as they came in the door and were still grumbling(although, louder) as they left. They said all they do all day long as they drive around is bitch about bush! I love it. For the last 2 years you couldn't bring up politics at all if you weren't a fan of his. But now, woohoo look out all you cheap-labor cons. The Dems are coming!
Oh also, we are getting people REGISTERED to vote. You wouldn't believe how many people are not even registered. And when you ask them what party do they affiliate themselves with, it's almost always Dem. I've known that all along. You just need to push people out the door and get them to the polls. I think this will be a good year for us(2004).
