Thoughts on the latest turn in the TX re-redistricting saga |
|
If the Senate will have a quorum with the return of John Whitmire, why can't 51 House members flee to Oklahoma or New Mexico? All legislation dies when the legislative session ends and must be passed by both houses. Anyway, why not let all the Senators come home, spend some time with their families and straighten out affairs at home while the House Democrats continue the fight.

They can take shifts, Senate in New Mexico, House in Oklahoma, alternating for the entire decade if need be.

3. Can he be restrained if they haven't called another special session |
|
I read that they will be holding off on calling another special session for a few weeks. What would happen if John Whitmore were to decide to leave again? Can they do anything about it? If there is no active legislative session, then would it be illegal to prevent him from leaving the state?

True, if he left when the lege was not in session they could not legally stop him, but let's get a grip on reality here. I have no doubt that they have bugged his house, his phones and are monitoring all of his movements. Republicans run the whole show here; they control the machinery of all the state's government and there is little to stop them from abusing those powers.
